Chatham Home Office Modern Makeover (+ before pics)

An outdated home office was doing a poor job serving the homeowners' needs. We emptied the room and started over, checking off the wish list along the way. A warm, inspiring space? Check. Storage for everything and everything in its place? Check. Taking the style factor up to the sublime? Check.

This home office has been fully redone in warm tones more in keeping with the predominant colors in the rest of the residence (Sherbet Pop & Gateway Arch, Valspar). Providing adequate storage allowed for the repurposing of a Danish modern dining table as a desk. An earth toned accent wall grounds the space and highlights the unique shape of the room.

The office nods to the established color palette in the existing home without using the original colors (Philadelphia Cream - Benjamin Moore). Instead, subtle choices within the same family were used(Sherbet Pop by Valspar), plus new accent colors instead of the existing coral tones. Shannon DeCelle Photography

By providing enough hidden storage, it was possible to use a vintage dining table instead of a traditional desk with drawers. Custom cellular window shades diffuse light and reduce heat transfer. Sherbet Pop by Valspar wall paint. Shannon DeCelle Photography

The custom built-in is given a stronger color back wall (Benjamin Moore Yellow Rain Coat) and beadboard for textural interest. Shannon DeCelle Photography

The earth toned feature wall (Valspar Gateway Arch) provides a nice grounded contrast to the warm yellow walls (Valspar Sherbet Pop) and ceiling. Even stronger, more saturated yellows were chosen as accents. Custom cellular window shades diffuse light and reduce heat transfer. Shannon DeCelle Photography

Before photos prove this workspace is uninspiring. Tall, heavy furniture ringing the room makes it feel cave-like. This room proves that having too much storage space only encourages you to fill it. A huge purge allowed for creation of an airier, calmer work space (see after photos).

Tall modular office furniture serves a great purpose in a huge open plan floor-through corporate space, but at home, it's just dated and grim. A talented, creative consultant deserves a far more inspirational space.
