This house was being divested of its gothic brick facade when Mel happened by, discovering the true history beneath...a classic clapboard-covered post and beam frame with its interior intact. So Tradition Home moved it piecemeal from Bolton Ontario to resurrect it on the Chants lot near Queensville.

A corner of the dining room in the Chant house. A dining cupboard was needed so we designed and built one into the wall. Mel Shakespeare, Tradition Home.

The upstairs landing of the Chant house was unusually wide, allowing for a substantial piece of furniture. Mel Shakespeare, Tradition Home.

An exterior view of the Chant home. The house certainly deserved a classic bell-cast porch. Notice the original dentil worked frieze that lends a touch of elegance. Mel Shakespeare, Tradition Home Design.

Some library and lots of storage were required in the living room so our cabinetmaker set to work.

A challenging task to reproduce a period bell-cast porch but our cabinetmaker was up to the task.

Fortunately, there was a one inch space between the late brick facade and the original clapboard, allowing for a reasonably clean salvage operation. Notice the line of the original bell-cast porch. I think the house was happy to revert back to its early self.
