12th Street Residence

The owners of this Craftsman home are amazing cooks who love to entertain, but the layout of the kitchen and dining area limited their capabilities.

The guiding concept for this project was an airy and bright remodel that establishes a clear connection to the outdoors. We opened up walls to set up a visual axis from the living and dining rooms to the backyard. Consolidating storage to a wall of full-height cabinets keeps the counter space free of visual obstructions.

The careful composition of each custom component allows this compact kitchen to feel expansive while functioning as the heart of the home. A folding glass wall creates true indoor/outdoor space, while bringing natural light and air into the kitchen. The custom-built eating counter evokes a sidewalk café and doubles as a serving counter for summertime gatherings.
