Extension to 1920's Property, Alexandra Palace

An extension to a 1920's property takes advantage of the existing level change down to the garden by dropping the internal floor level to create a generous space and a superb addition to the property.

The client desired an elegant and traditional kitchen to compliment the eye catching range cooker. Three distinct areas are created in kitchen - dark marble and antique glass frame the cooker, a carrara marble work surface and crackle glaze tile splash back surround the sink, and the island is one large uninterrupted piece of white resin.

A large folding sliding door and full width roof light allow light to penetrate deep into the space while opening the room to garden and sky. Angled bricks create a textured plinth either side of the doors and break up the totality of the London stock brickwork elevation.

The client's library is very important and the books are displayed in full height shelves which creates a rich and colourful back drop to the room. The level change is neatly traversed through a quarter turn stepped arrangement in the corner of the kitchen dinner, with the higher level as an extension of the hall and metal handrail. The timber floor finish continues from the h...More

The timber floor finish continues from the hall and dresses down the stairs to meet the timber texture porcelain tiles in the lower level.

The kitchen diner incorporates half of the former rear reception room, with the remainder accommodating a walk through cloak room and hidden utility cupboard, which leads to a new WC.
