Oakland Terraced Garden
This garden was previously a sloping hill toward the house. It had a perimeter walkway with a central lawn area that the clients had converted into a veggie patch. The clients realized they loved being outside in the space and so they wanted a design that included vegetables (now easily accessed in raised beds behind the floating benches) but also areas for their family to eat and play in. We installed a sprinkler in the corner of the festuca planter that they can run through on hot days but also have been mindful of drought using drought tolerant plants. By dividing the slope into usable terraces and using Olive trees and planters to delineate the spaces, the garden feels larger but still cozy and definitely more usable and family friendly.
