Our friends at Elite Flooring were able to weave in new oak flooring to preserve the original. One of their unique skills is to achieve a color match between the newly refinished area and the adjacent original floors. This avoided the need to refinish the entire first floor for purely aesthetic reasons.

The original kitchen was bisected by walkways, doors and walls. It was also closed off from the adjacent family room and had several clunky details like cabinets butting into windows and non-functional corners.

This project was definitely the advanced class in that it involved not just major structural changes but the relocation of two drain stacks, steam heat lines, electrical and supply plumbing lines. All hands were on deck for this one!

All that work to remove the load-bearing wall was well worth it. The casual family room is now fully integrated with the kitchen and the work space is well set up for two (or more) cooks.

We discovered an Ohio company, Create Good Sinks, that manufacture these amazing "ledge" sinks that incorporate sliding drain racks, cutting boards and more that allow nor only a huge sink (in this case- 48") but you are able to use the sink as additional counter space utilizing the cutting boards. How convenient is that?

Our friends and neighbors at S K Lavery supplied the appliances for this serious chef's kitchen. The Wolf dual-fuel range has a special grate that is designed for a Wok.

Three distinct work areas allow for spaces in ones togetherness, an important part of harmonious collaboration... (in my opinion anyway)

Not to dwell on the sink but- the simple addition of a second faucet avoids the frequent conflict/ waiting when one person needs to rinse their hands while the other is washing a pot, etc. I'm of the opinion that even small kitchens should incorporate one of these smart, highly functional sinks.

roll-out units flanking the range contain all the "mis en place" items; oils, cooking sprays, salt cellar, common spices, etc. Our designs take into consideration the hierarchy of frequent use so that the items you need most commonly are right at hand.
