A Designer's Touch

Michaelson Homes worked with interior designer Meg Kohnen to update this 1960s home, which included a living room, kitchen, mudroom extension off the back and a re-work of the existing interior spaces. The result is a gorgeous home that has both high function and exquisite design details.

Michaelson Homes worked with the designer to create this unique panel trim detail for the foyer walls. The challenge was creating a symmetrical design that would work going up the stairs as well as on the adjacent wall. The end result is a custom look that adds elegance and style to the home's entry. With a new family room being added to the back of the home, there was a question on what to do with this space that used to provide access to the back yard. Michaelson Homes decided to give it some character by creating a barrel ceiling with trim detail, giving the pass thru visual interest and a warmer feel. The brick walls, which used to be the exterior back wall of the house, perfectly integrate with the new living room addition to give this area added charm. Custom cabinetry from Riverside Custom Cabinetry stylishly conceals the wall mounted TV above the fireplace. Designer: Meg Kohnen Photography by: William Manning

This second stairwell was added for access to the second floor from the back of the house. The stairs are painted, rather than stained, in a beautiful blue/green hue. Details like the wall trim, wallpaper, and paneled ceiling with painted beams give what could be a boring u-shaped stairwell lots of character. Designer: Meg Kohnen Photography by: William Manning
