La Selva Beach
This tiny, 700 sq. ft. house was originally built as a studio in the early 1960’s and completely remodeled by my client in 2015-16. I was contacted in late 2016 to redesign/update the landscape. Although the bones of the original design were still in place, over the years tenants added many new plants. There was a lot of plant variety, randomly placed without much thought for design. I ‘rearranged’ many of the existing plants, putting like with like, and added new plants – Agaves and other succulents, Cordylines, Anigozanthos, Coleonema, Leucospermum… The intent was to give the garden structure while maintaining as many of the existing plants as made sense. We also reshaped the plant beds, added gravel walkways, and carved out an additional graveled patio at the front of the property. Local ironworker, Rigel Hunter, created the entrance gate based on a rough design that I and my client provided.. These photo were taken at various times throughout the last year.
