Dramatic, Elegant Master Bathroom

In the first of two designs, a master bathroom was updated with a dramatic, elegant bath without straying from the home's classic style. To gain space for the remodel, the clients’ existing office space, an extra bedroom adjacent to the master, was reconfigured into the new master bathroom, while the original master bathroom became the new office.
The entrance to the new bathroom became a short hallway, which was mirrored on both sides to visually expand the area. This passageway leads to the focal point of the room – an oval VL5535 Jason Air-Whirlpool bath positioned at the center of the rear wall between the two existing windows. The bath was enclosed within a surround and deck custom-made from marble, with the shape following the contours of the oval tub. The tub is anchored on the rear wall, where it appears that the marble turns and wraps up the wall to the stacked crown molding.
Twin vanities were placed on either side of the tub to take advantage of the natural light from the nearby windows. The toilet and shower were placed on opposite sides of the room behind curved walls, which reflect the curve of the oval bathtub enclosure. The custom-designed shower enclosure is a piece of frameless curved glass with a frameless door. Two “hidden” mirrored doors on either side of the mirrored hallway lead to his and hers walk-in closets.
To maintain the classic style, a neutral palette was chosen with accents of blacks and gold from the marble. The finish for the cabinetry was a simple, classic ivory paint, but a brown glaze was brushed on to create a richer color. One of the most interesting fixtures is the spout that fills the bathtub, which creates the look of a fountain or a spring coming from within the marble wall.
The second design features a total redesign of a master bath to achieve a contemporary feeling using clean lines, and to maintain the existing layout. The first item selected determined the look of the rest of the bath, which was the custom mosaic glass tile that covers the walls. The colors that were chosen produced a neutral palette of warm gray, taupe, and chocolate accented by silver. Bluestone, a natural stone that resembles concrete, was chosen for the flooring and the countertops. This created a warm, contemporary feel which repeated the silver in the walls and blended well with the color of the freestanding tub, sinks, toilet and other fixtures.
A slab style door with an espresso finish was chosen to incorporate the chocolate tones in the wall tile. The vanities were shortened in width to appear freestanding and the countertops flow seamlessly from the floor, to the top, and back down to the floor. The flush-mounted cabinet hardware and the specified lavatories incorporate a flat-plane aesthetic to further the seamless appearance. A freestanding, LX635 Jason soaking bath was placed with a simple, yet sleek, floor-mounted tub filler. The lavatory faucets and shower fittings repeated this style. Frameless mirrors at each vanity conceal recessed medicine cabinets with built-in electrical outlets for extra storage. The shower is enclosed with an almost invisible, tempered, frameless glass.
