Will Calhoun - photo The structure in the wall over the firebox was rebuilt to support a flush beam in the ceiling to support the 24 foot span of the ceiling joists. The existing fireplace surround and molding was removed and replaced after the structural repair. The repainting erases any sense that the wall was opened up.

Will Calhoun - photo This portico provided some sanctuary from rain to allow for an open door and summer breezes to enter without the rain. The portico also provides some visual weight to the facade of the house which had a mis-weighted window schedule. The portico helps to balance the white painted windows on the prominent facade of the house.
