The "before" photos show how the lake cottage looked when we started this 9 month long, whole house renovation project. It was a cute space with great windows and great light, but in need of an update. The stairs were open, rough hewn wood and stained a blue grey color (along with the ceiling bead board being stained blue grey). We created a "real" staircase for the homeowners and opened the loft up to the lake view, by taking out the half wall and putting in an open post, handrail and bannister system that looks AMAZING!! The kitchen was a mixture of stained cabinets, open shelving and laminated countertops and just wasn't working for the homeowner. New grey cabinets and butcher block countertop created a bright warm room that welcomes the homeowners as they enter this wonderful space. The fireplace is made of local stone and is the focal point of the great room. Now it has a chance to shine in this space and not compete with the blue stain. This project was so fun and ended up being such a relaxing and warm place for the family to hang out in the summer and throughout their favorite time of year…IU football season!! The family allowed me and the contractor, Harris Services, a lot of liberty in making selections, and I think that worked well for everyone. Great to have such open receptive clients, as a designer, this is a dream come true!! The homeowners own photos are featured in all the photo collages. Family fun hang out!! What a view too. Makes you instantly relax…AHHHHH!!
