Dark gray tones are juxtaposed with bright shades of yellow, green, and orange in this funky and fun living room. Framed white windows emphasize the view while nature-inspired patterns and organic décor blur the lines between the indoors and out. A contemporary chandelier serves as a statement piece while a white mantel and stone fireplace create a strong focal point within the room.

Designed by Cameron Snyder, CKD and Julie Lyons.
Removing the former wall between the kitchen and dining room to create an open floor plan meant the former powder room tucked in a corner needed to be relocated.
Cameron designed a 7' by 6' space framed with curved wall in the middle of the new space to locate the new powder room and it became an instant focal point perfectly located for guests and easily accessible from the kitchen, living and dining room areas.
Both the pedestal lavatory and one piece sanagloss toilet are from TOTO Guinevere collection. Faucet is from the Newport Brass-Bevelle series in Polished Nickel with lever handles.

This lovely breakfast room, overlooking the garden, is an inviting place to start your day lingering over Sunday morning coffee. I had the walls painted in a soft coral, contrasting with various wood tones in the armoire, table and shades. It is all tied together by keeping the chair covers and rug light in color. The crystal chandelier is an unexpected element in a breakfast room, yet, your not compelled to pull out the china and silver.

Elegant formal and enclosed dark wood floor living room photo in Dallas with black walls, a standard fireplace and no tv

Located at the top of a brownstone on Manhattan's Upper West Side, this apartment had a tiny footprint of just 425 feet, but the space stretched vertically for approximately 25 feet, and had access to a roof terrace.
Our solution created four separate "living platforms" inserted within the space that provide room for all the essentials and still allow the apartment to feel open and light-filled. The lowest level is an entry and kitchen space, and a few steps up is the main living area. Above the living area is a cantilevered bed pavilion that projects out into the main space, supported on steel beams. A final stair leads up to a roof garden. All the spaces flow into one another, and the idea of distinct "rooms" dissolved.
Given the miniscule size of the apartment, every inch of space is put to use. Stairs are not merely for circulation through the apartment, but feature built-in storage cabinetry and drawers below. The main bath and shower, in fact, are also built below the primary staircase. The kitchen features fully concealed appliances, flip up high storage units for easy access, and a countertop that wraps into the main living space, becoming a virtual 'hearth' with built-in entertainment system. There are no traditional closets in the entire apartment.
Materials throughout are selected to emphasize the spatial characteristics of the project. The perimeter is light, with painted (existing) brick, glass backsplashes and shelving, and white lacquered kitchen cabinets, stair cabinets, and fittings. The cantilevered bed pavilion is clad in dark wood, and anchors the space - a central object around which everything revolves. A dark wood floor and wood stair treads lead through and around the apartment, spiraling up onto the wood deck at the room. Given the number of built-in features, furnishings are minimal in number, with only a couch, coffee table, bed, and a side chair necessary.

The homeowners wanted a cozy and romantic room, with lots of feminine softness but enough masculinity to keep the space feeling grounded. We achieved this by juxtaposing luxurious fabrics in a light, airy palette with clean-lined furniture and deep, rich wood tones.

Cooking for Two
Location: Plymouth, MN, United States
When this couple’s last child graduated from college they began the process of looking for a new home. After a lengthy search they decided to stay with the neighborhood they loved, saving money by remodeling rather than starting over.
The top priorities on their wish list were adding character to their 1990’s era home with a classic white kitchen and a larger island while keeping within the existing footprint. With the intention of honing their cooking skills, they were also considering better appliances and two ovens.
Challenges and Solutions
Design a larger island with seating for at least two. The existing island was small and the area behind the seating was less than recommended clearances.
To solve this challenge, the seating area of the island was extended out into the open area of the kitchen. This created a larger island with seating for three, extra storage and a bookshelf across from the range.
The original kitchen had a range with microwave above, so adding another oven was a challenge with limited wall space.
Because the adjoining dining room is used infrequently, the homeowner was open to placing the second oven and microwave in the walkway. This made room for the small buffet between the built in refrigerator and ovens, creating one of her favorite areas.
The client requested a white painted kitchen but wanted to make sure it had warmth and character. To achieve this the following elements were chosen:
1) Cabinets painted with Benjamin Moore Capitol White, a luminous and warm shade of white.
2) The Range hood was painted with warm metallic shades to reflect the bronze of the Ashley Norton hardware.
3) Black Aqua Grantique granite was chosen for countertops because it looks like soapstone and adds contrast.
4) Walker Zanger Café tile in Latte was chosen for it’s handmade look with uneven edges.
5) The to-the-counter-cabinet with glass door shows off serving dishes and lends sophisticated charm.
The result is a welcoming classic kitchen, where this couple enjoys cooking more often and sharpening their skills with gourmet appliances.

This room used to be one of the teenage girl's room, but they have decided to use this room as their TV and entertainment room. The room is small, the previous bedroom furnitures and the turquoise paint from ceiling to wall and the thick carpet gave the room a very stuffy feeling eventhough it had a very high ceiling. Both the teenagers definitely wanted white walls, space, comfort and a modern feel where they can invite friends and use it as well as a guest room. I opted for white all over, engineered white wood floor (warm to the feel, free from acariens and easy to maintain and clean), suggested the layout and the type of affordable furnitures and rugs from CB2 (they had fun and chose the furnitures and colors themselves - they made a great choice), (they loved the idea of the chalkboard wall in my home) chalkboard paint for fun which I aligned along the window, made better directional lights from the ceiling (led lights), simple suspension from CB2 to provide ambiance lighting at night and white lacquered TV/bookcase furniture from Ikea.
