We repeated the iron and glass office doors (opposite this space) to create a small tableaux with a custom knitted hammock and a wall fountain. A perfect little hideaway in an otherwise expansive home.

Great Falls Sun Room
Great Falls Sun Room
Interiors by LH
A space that was only used as a pass through now has become a daily destination. Located in pastoral Great Falls, VA, just outside of Washington D.C., this sunroom needed to be a welcoming year round retreat for an active family of four. Inspired by resort lifestyle, the space was reconstructed using the same footprint as before, adding floor to ceiling windows. Air conditioning and underlayment heat under new wood-look porcelain tile were added to ensure the room could be enjoyed no matter what season. Sunbrella fabrics were used on the settee and chairs that will stand up to wet bathing suits and barbeques. Benjamin Moore’s Sapphireberry 2063 60 was painted to bring the blue sky in on even a cloudy day. Designed by Laura Hildebrandt of Interiors by LH, LLC. Photos by Jenn Verrier Photography. Construction by Patio Enclosures.

Delightful 1930's home on the parkway needed a major kitchen remodel which lead to expanding the sunroom and opening them up to each other. Above a master bedroom and bath were added to make this home live larger than it's square footage would bely.

BARRETT STUDIO architects
Located above Boulder, Mothertree follows the curve and slope of the land making strong connections to the earth and sky. Each outdoor connection is inspired by existing natural features: The Entry Courtyard encircles a small cluster of mature trees, the Northern Contemplation Garden is rocky with dappled light and a spiral fountain, and the South Patio is open, exposed and perfect for warming in the sun while enjoying the views from Boulder to the Denver skyline. A warm but bright interior palette includes bamboo cabinetry and built-ins, cork flooring, beetle kill pine, indoor-outdoor ceilings, and vibrant ceramic tiles, sinks and light fixtures made by the client, a ceramics artist.

LITTLE CAMP
LITTLE CAMP
Marvin
Little Camp is a direct response to its particular context. Its site is next to an old, slightly ramshackle "camp" that the homeowners had rented and loved for years. When they had a chance to build for themselves on the adjacent site, they wanted to capture some of the spirit of the old camp. So, the new house has exposed rafter tails, an entirely wood interior, and tree trunk porch posts. Little Camp, unlike the old camp next door, can be occupied year 'round; though it is geared to informal summer living, with provisions for fishing and boating equipment, an outdoor shower, and an expansive living porch with many points of access from the house. The plan of Little Camp is largely one room deep to encourage cross ventilation and to take advantage of water views to the north while also admitting sunlight from the south. To keep the building profile low, the second floor bedrooms are contained within the roof, which is a gambrel on the entry side but sweeps down in an uninterrupted single pitch on the water side. The long, low main house is complemented by a compact guest house and a separate garage/workshop with compatible but simplified details.

This Sunroom has a direct view of the kitchen and Great Room, so the selections for this space had to have that chic stye but yet remain comfortable. The settee and ottoman make for a great space to unwind! John Carlson @ Carlson Productions
