How to Insert Custom Fields Into Your Contact Form

Contact forms serve as an effective means of gathering information from website visitors, customers or potential leads. They are a great way to get more business, facilitate project requests, or even receive feedback.

By default, the Houzz Pro contact form includes fields for the customer's name, email address, phone number, ZIP code and message. However, if you require additional data, you can incorporate custom fields.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to integrate custom fields into your Houzz Pro contact form.

How to Create Custom Fields
  • Access your website editor by clicking the Company icon from your left navigation in Houzz Pro, then selecting Website from the left menu. You can also click this link to access directly.
  • Within your website editor, go to the page where the contact form is placed. Click the contact form to highlight it.
  • Click the pencil icon to edit the form.
  • A new popup screen will appear. Click on Add Question.
  • Add your question in the open text box. To make the question mandatory, check the box next to Response Required.
  • Click Add Question again to add more questions if needed. You can delete a question by clicking the trash can next to the question. You can reorder the questions by clicking the six dots icon to the left of the question and dragging to the appropriate spot.
  • Be sure to click Save to make the changes.

Please Note: Customizing one contact form will not automatically update other forms if multiple forms are present on your website.

Best Practices for Custom Fields
  • Simplicity is key: Avoid the temptation to overcrowd your contact form with numerous custom fields. Keep it simple by including only essential fields necessary for effectively addressing customer inquiries. Too many fields can overwhelm users and decrease form completion rates.
  • Clear field labels: Ensure that the labels for each field are straightforward and easily understandable. Use plain language and avoid technical jargon that may confuse customers.
  • Ask project-specific questions: Including a contact form enables you to collect important details about your clients' preferences, objectives, project specifications and scope. Maximize the potential of your contact form by incorporating project-specific questions!
