Network, learn and stay inspired in the coming year at the events for industry pros

Trade shows offer design and remodeling professionals many valuable opportunities, with their educational workshops, panels with industry leaders, exhibitions of products and services, and plenty of chances for socializing. You can stay up to date on new products and trends in the marketplace. You can learn about business opportunities and ways to improve your process. And you can meet people who might be a great fit for working with or sharing peer support. We’ve rounded up important trade events in the United States and internationally to help you plan ahead this year. Get your calendar out and mark your favorites!

* UK Construction Week

May 7-9, 2024, London

Oct. 1-3, 2024, Birmingham, England

Calling itself “the U.K.’s largest built environment event,” UK Construction Week has two incarnations: London and Birmingham. This free event boasts 4,000 industry speakers, 6,000 product exhibits and nine show sections, including Digital Construction and Net Zero.

* AIA24 Conference on Architecture & Design

June 5-8, 2024

Washington, D.C.

The American Institute of Architects is behind AIA24, which welcomes those in the architecture, construction and engineering (ACE) sector. Last year’s event had more than 165 seminars, 20 workshops, tours of iconic local architecture and an expo with more than 500 brands. Master new skills, check out just-launched products, earn continuing education credits and more. 

National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Annual Conference

August 2024 (subject to change)

While it’s smaller than some other building events due to its targeted nature, the NAWIC Annual Conference offers three educational tracks, continuing education credits, jobsite tours and networking events. While the details of the 2024 event are yet to be announced, it’s worth keeping an eye on this if you’re one of the approximately 10% of women in the construction industry (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

* The Buildings Show

Fall 2024

Toronto

This long-running show (35 years and counting) for construction pros presents more than a hundred conference sessions — panels, seminars and roundtables — alongside the show itself, which has more than 500 exhibitors. The Buildings Show typically draws more than 13,000 attendees and offers continuing education opportunities as well as chances to mingle with experts and fellow attendees. Keep an eye on the website for the 2024 date.

* EspritMeuble

Fall 2024

Paris

Dedicated to furniture, EspritMeuble offers a plethora of activities and events as well as showcases the winners of the M Awards for innovation. It usually attracts more than 300 exhibiting brands. Keep an eye on the website for the 2024 event, as the 2023 event is still in progress (Nov. 18-21). But be aware that most of the website is in French, so you might need some translation help.

* International Furniture Fair (IFF)

Fall 2024

Location TBD

IFF was still gearing up for its 2023 event (Nov. 12-13 in New York City) as we were putting this list together, but keep an eye out for the 2024 incarnation. This leading platform for contemporary furniture design showcases a wide range of products to an audience of 10,000 architects, interior designers, retailers and more. And of course there are panel discussions, networking opportunities and activities to foster socializing.

* London Build 

Fall 2024

London

London Build is a festival of construction that features more than 500 speakers, 350 exhibitors, workshops, entertainment and even celebrity guests. Among its stages this year are Diversity in Construction, Sustainability and Digital Construction. And of course there are plenty of networking events! Keep an eye on the website for the 2024 event, as the 2023 event is still in progress (Nov. 16-17).

* CEDIA Expo

Sept. 5-7, 2024

Denver

The only show dedicated to residential technology pros, CEDIA Expo offers the chance to hear from experts and connect with like-minded pros. It promises to showcase cutting-edge innovation as well as present educational sessions that focus on new technologies, best practices and the latest industry developments. 

* Batimat

Sept. 30-Oct. 3, 2024

Paris

Targeted at construction pros, Batimat has “Building bridges between professionals and innovation” as its tagline. This year’s event intends to promote a proactive spirit for coming up with solutions to current challenges, and it will focus on four areas: Adaptation, Innovation, People and Local Governments. You can also find out the winners if the Innovation Awards

* Decorex

Oct. 6-9, 2024

London

A key event for interior design pros, Decorex presents furniture, fabric, lighting, decorative crafts, contemporary art, and more by an extensive range of brands and designers. Its keynotes and panel sessions by industry influencers will focus on topics tailored to interior designers, property developers, product designers and architects.

* Chicago Build

Oct. 22-23, 2024

Chicago

Chicago Build is the Midwest version of New York Build (see above), with a similar setup of workshops, seminars, exhibitors and networking parties. The 12 educational tracks include  topics such as the Future of Construction; Diversity & Inclusion; Sustainability, Health and Safety; and Digital Construction.
