Quick Fix: Multipurpose Painter's Tape
Five creative uses beyond a paint job for those favorite blue rolls
Whether your last painting project took place three days or three years ago, odds are you still have painter's tape lying around your house. I painted my apartment two years ago, and somehow I still have three rolls of the wide, blue tape in my desk. The good news is, there's a remarkable number of uses for this magical tape. Kenny Grono, president of Buckminster Green in Philadelphia, Pa., shares 5 of his favorites.
And of course, there's a ton of great ways to use painter's tape with paint as a way to customize and style your home. Design your own unique geometric shape, tape it off, and apply a fresh coat of glossy paint to wall, door or piece of furniture to completely change the look of a space.

2. Protect doors and sills. When moving or remodeling, tape door thresholds and windowsills with painter's tape to protect them from scuffs when moving furniture and materials in and out.
3. Keep dust out. Tape the perimeter of closet and cabinet doors before doing any dusty and dirty work in a room. A closed door can't keep all the dirt and dust from getting in through the cracks.
4. Make clean cuts. Put tape on the edge of a finished surface before cutting with a circular saw or jig saw. The tape prevents unattractive and rough marring of the finish.
5. Protect floors. While painting, make sure to tape the edges of plastic or paper floor protection to the baseboard — never the floor. Even blue painter's tape can pull up a polyurethane floor finish!
