Request Free QuoteThe brick landing shown is part of the home’s original walk, reimagined as an open welcome before the final approach to the front door. It becomes a natural extension of the threshold, suggesting the entrance appears more generous than it is. Repeating topiary-type plantings with seasonal flowers spilling from containers add chapters to the story. The largest challenge was to respond with a wonderful front walk and additional parking, yet keeping the hardscape down to a 30% maximum coverage of the front yard dictated by the zoning code on this tight property.

Request Free QuoteThe stone steppers leave the path as the transition is made into the small rose garden, which is surfaced only with bluestone chips. A step was introduced as another transition cue, quietly informing the visitor that they are about to enter into a different area.

So the front walk was designed to intentionally slow the visitor and take a little time to arrive with it’s indirect “L” shape. The brick paving involves the visitor as well with its detailed zig-zag (herringbone) pattern.

The crused shell driveway is traditional surface that is bordered by a bluestone walk that connects to both the front and back house entries. The relocated tool shed has an outdoor shower on the backside for cleaning up after coming back from the beach. Paul Maue
