Elegant gray two-story wood exterior home photo in Philadelphia

Located in Menlo Park, California, this 3,000 sf. remodel was carefully crafted to generate excitement and make maximum use of the owner’s strict budget and comply with the city’s stringent planning code. It was understood that not everything was to be redone from a prior owner’s quirky remodel which included odd inward angled walls, circular windows and cedar shingles. Remedial work to remove and prevent dry rot ate into the budget as well. Studied alterations to the exterior include a new trellis over the garage door, pushing the entry out to create a new soaring stair hall and stripping the exterior down to simplify its appearance. The new steel entry stair leads to a floating bookcase that pivots to the family room. For budget reasons, it was decided to keep the existing cedar shingles. Upstairs, a large oak multi-level staircase was replaced with the new simple run of stairs. Elegant beige two-story mixed siding exterior home photo in Atlanta

The exterior is primarily clad in textured 18" NuCedar RoughSawn Shingles finished in a vibrant, natural Cedar color. The warmth of the shingles is complemented by a lower section of contrasting grey vertical siding. Crisp white trim and substantial white columns frame the windows, while a dark standing-seam metal roof over the prominent gabled entryway provides a bold, contemporary finish with excellent curb appeal.

This bungalow features a two-tier roof line to give more dimension to the front face of the home. Columns were added to the new covered front porch, and the stone below the bay window was replaced with new flagstone. A pergola was added at the breezeway area, and a new window was added to the front gable on the garage, with dark green shutters, which was finished in cedar shake siding.
