Hawthorne natural thin stone veneer from the Quarry Mill looks stunning on the exterior of this bay window. Hawthorne is a low height ledgestone real stone veneer in semi-consistent shades of tan. The natural sandstone pieces come from the thinner layers of the quarry. Hawthorne’s pieces have relatively straight and parallel tops and bottoms from the clean slabs cut into the thin veneer. The stone can be installed with or without a mortar joint between the individual pieces. If you are planning to drystack the stone, both the mason’s cost to do the installation as well as the waste factor will increase considerably. This home is one of my favorite applications we have ever done! The colors and combinations of stone on this home integrated with the other materials provide such a unique foundation for this home. The combination of wood, painted wood, stained wood (different stain colors), stucco and stone give this home a one of a kind feel. Now to the stone. First off, I love the rust color of this stone (the doors have the same color stain to really bring that out). Well on this application we used two stones from the NC Mountains and a stone from Tennessee. As you can see in the right of the picture the veneer stone is drystacked in a subtle way that really accentuates the rust color and in my favorite detail we used River Rock about all the doors and windows as an accent stone and it looks amazing! The Tennessee flagstone is used as cap on all of the walls and ledges. Let me just say one thing about Tennessee flagstone, it can go almost anywhere in a flat situation and complements everything so well.

This beautiful exterior and front entrance feature a custom blend Charleston and Coventry natural thin stone veneer from the Quarry Mill. Charleston is a natural low height dimensional ledgestone in shades of grey and black with occasional tans and browns. In the stone industry, dimensional refers to a sawed height product and ledgestone refers to pieces with smaller heights. Charleston is cut with the intention of being installed in a tight fit or drystack installation. The pieces have heights of 2”, 4”, and 6” to create clean and consistent lines when installed. The pieces have natural edges to be field trimmed by the mason on-site; field trimming allows the pieces to all fit together tightly. Charleston has a split back or natural back as opposed to a sawn back. The quarry which Charleston comes from is naturally well-layered which allows for the split back. The split back has no impact on the installation or final appearance.

This beautiful drystacked front entrance showcases a custom blend of the Quarry Mill's Coventry Charleston real thin stone veneer. Coventry is a dimensional ledgestone real thin veneer sawed to heights of 2”, 4”, and 6”. With the set heights, this stone is intended to be drystacked. Coventry has a unique production process that differs substantially from our other thin stone veneers. The stone is excavated from the ground in roughly 1” thick sheets. The stone sheets are then fed into a gang saw. The term gang saw comes from the saw’s multiple blades cutting in unison. The blades are spaced in 2”, 4”, and 6” increments. A 2’ by 2’ raw stone sheet will come out of the gang saw in clean and consistent 2”, 4”, and 6” strips. The gang saw is similar to the head saw used in lumber mills. The production of Coventry is similar to lumber production in that the head saw will create 2” strips of wood from a full tree.
