WKD’s design specialty in quality historic preservation ensured that the integrity of this home’s interior and exterior architecture was kept intact. The design mission was to preserve, restore and renovate the home in a manner that celebrated its heritage, while recognizing and accommodating today’s lifestyle and technology. Drawing from the home’s original details, WKD re-designed a friendly entry (including the exterior landscape approach) and kitchen area, integrating it into the existing hearth room. We also created a new stair to the second floor, eliminating the small, steep winding stair. New colors, wallpaper, furnishings and lighting make for a family friendly, welcoming home. The project has been published several times. Designed by Paula Truchon of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Frederick, MD in collaboration with Faber Custom Builders, this Rustic inspired kitchen design features Greenfield Cabinetry in the Augusta door style in 2 finishes. The perimeter kitchen cabinets feature Knotty Alder with the Federal finish. The island cabinets feature a paintable Cityscape finish. Kitchen countertops are granite in the color Steel Gray with a leathered finish. The kitchen tile backsplash features Unicom Starker Natural Slate Multi-color in 12x12 sheets. The new floor plan design made more effective use of the space, accommodating multiple renovation needs into the kitchen. The new layout created an open galley kitchen with a 13 1/2′ Island with seating at each end, a cool-grey custom banquette with 2 tables.
