Nestled among towering ponderosa pines, this contemporary cabin pairs warm weathering steel (Corten) cladding with dark vertical board-and-batten siding for a striking, low-maintenance exterior built to age gracefully in the alpine climate. The perennials are astilbe, carex, evergreen autumn fern, hellebore, and variegated solomon's seal. Shrubs include abelia, itea, laurel, mugho pine and oak leaf hydrangea. IDDLA’s Mid-Century Modern Landscape features an architectural gem nestled within acres of conservation land. While many of our landscape interventions are happening close to the house, we are working with our clients to steward the property including planting successional canopy trees and transitioning areas of lawn to meadows & woodlands. On this natural mound in the foreground we’re encouraging this flush of fern and supplementing new low-bush blueberry plantings with white pines and sassafras transplanted from elsewhere on the property.

This green living wall art is actually preserved moss in a burned pine frame. It is accented by a glass vase that is made to look opaque and down. The reeds in the vase offset the green of the vertical garden. The green wall really pops out against the white background and mid-century cabinet.
