Landkamer Art / Quadratic 1114 003
•
This work was totally inspired by the sudden arrival of droves of Mexican Hats flowering in the Santa Fe summer heat in our garden. Their warm yellow impact against the knockout blue sky instantly recalibrated my disposition and I used that sunny energy to dive into a new color world. Creating this work was super uplifting—and so is the end result for viewers. A supporter’s recent Email said—”beautiful, imaginative, uplifting.” Hope my art takes you to a more gratifying place as well! That’s my intent.

The owner of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Oscar Balch House (Oak Park, 1911) approached TBDA to help steward the property through the 21st century, including pursuing a path to Net Zero energy.
Historic Preservation principles, building science, and decarbonization strategies are combined to maintain the integrity of the architecture while radically reducing the carbon footprint. In keeping with owner’s mission to share the project and process (see Balch House on Instagram), you can view the free webinar hosted by Illinois Green Alliance where Tom Bassett-Dilley, builder Doug Freerksen (Von Dreele-Freerksen Construction Company), and mechanical engineer Mark Nussbaum (Architectural Consulting Engineers) discussed tradeoffs, long-term planning, energy modeling, and more. We hope this leaves viewers with a better understanding of the techniques and challenges of decarbonizing historic homes while maintaining their character.

Landkamer Art / Avenida Triptych 007 • This series began in a more sparse mode as shown in this piece and was primarily inspired by the swaying California coastal kelp forests. There’s a blog post about that on my site. But an additional layer of meaning was on my mind—a frightening incident when very young where I was pushed off a Minnesota lake dock and needed to be pulled out of the lake quickly as I could not swim. This series references both inspiration moments into one positive healing work. There is the beauty and power of the swaying ocean kelp linked to the turbulence and fright of being knocked into the lake and looking up to the water’s surface from below.
Unintentionally the result is uplifting beauty and abundant positive energy for me. Like three frames from a film, the triptych panels communicate with each other. My hope is viewers can relate to where the work is coming from and share a positive emotional bond with it that puts them in a better space as well. • View more new art on Instagram: @landkamerart • Custom size prints available. This renovation was completed with the primary goal of removed the carpet in the stairs which was not only difficult to clean but constantly looking worn in this very busy household. Ideally they wanted a durable, low maintenance flooring solution that still added character and coziness. The solution: Luxury vinyl planks! The unique and discreet metal nosings we used respect the clean lines and richness of this amazing plank in a non-commercial way. NOTE: While not all vinyl planks are created equal - the good ones are worth paying a little extra for!

Sculpture by Mayme Kratz
This is a home we initially built in 1995 and after it sold in 2014 we were commissioned to come back and remodel the interior of the home.
We worked with internationally renowned architect Will Bruder on the initial design on the home. The goal of home was to build a modern hillside home which made the most of the vista upon which it sat. A few ways we were able to achieve this were the unique, floor-to-ceiling glass windows on the side of the property overlooking Scottsdale, a private courtyard off the master bedroom and bathroom, and a custom commissioned sculpture Mayme Kratz.
Stonecreek's particular role in the project were to work alongside both the clients and the architect to make sure we were able to perfectly execute on the vision and design of the project. A very unique component of this house is how truly custom every feature is, all the way from the window systems and the bathtubs all the way down to the door handles and other features.
