The way one chooses to maintain one's garden is an important element of design. One option is to leave intact last year's growth on warm-season grasses for their sculptural quality. We love how the native Meadow Petunia fills in all the gaps, while the Black Eyed Susans provide bright and bold contrast to the mix. A MID-CENTURY MODERN HOME IN LOS ALTOS The design of the Carado residence is certainly contemporary, but its architecture and layout evoke the best of mid-century modernism. The interior design springs from this aesthetic, with the European furnishings specifically chosen to harken back to a golden era of American architecture. The look is more 60’s vibe than clean contemporary, with spaces meant for lounging and entertaining. Fit for a cool, confident and cultured homeowner, Carado’s more masculine sensibility is complemented by its darker-toned furnishings, accessories and art. The indoor and outdoor furnishings are sophisticated yet comfortable, with fabrics ranging from tufted leather to raw linen. CONTEMPORARY INDOOR-OUTDOOR FURNITURE FOR OPEN-PLAN LIVING The ground floor features a billiard room framed by a walk-in wine cellar and a media room, with a luxurious, fresh take on the chesterfield sofa by Baxter. On the main floor, which is L shaped with retractable walls of glass that completely open the living room and dining room to the outdoors, there is a sprawling modular sofa from Living Divani that allows for seating in any direction. The dining room boasts an elegant metal table, also by Living Divani. The unmistakable designs of Paola Lenti make up the unique outdoor seating areas around the pool and beside the dining room. Upstairs, the light-filled bedrooms are more clean and minimal, with the master suite an almost heavenly retreat. Together, the architecture and interior design work seamlessly and address every detail of contemporary design to create the perfect home for the connoisseur.
