Inspiration for a small rustic backyard deck remodel in Minneapolis with a pergola

This client expressed to me that he had talked to several people that call their self pergola designers and I was the 1st one to come up with something that met his needs and wants. please note the holes in the concrete were the posts are setting. By putting the post in the ground we stabilize the structure immensely and today those holes are being used as planters for vines to grow out of.

Pergolas are not just for the backyard.

Housed in a mid-century modern, post and beam gem this gulley kitchen, the client was remodeled to reflect its original charm. The center section of the dropped ceiling was opened up to expose original beams and a long row of charming tilt-down vents. All of the removed forties plywood was salvaged, restored and re-purposed, then combined with new wood -on the hood surround and a few walls. A dash of charcoal, turquoise and red Formica, plus linear cook top arrangements take their inspiration from the good old days. Suki Medencevic
