The Cotton Factory is a collection of historic industrial buildings housing artist studios, non-profits and other creative industries. This courtyard space acts as both a common area for the workers, as well as an event space fed by the adjacent catering kitchen. The space provides several unique conversation spaces, as well as table seating for 24. The tables are able to be moved to suit whatever event needs may arise. Small unprogrammed open spaces allow for temporary art installations or additional seating should the need arise. In an effort to adhere to a tight budget, all elements are comprised of affordable and even reclaimed materials using simple construction methods. These elements also suit the eclectic style of the buildings inhabitants, while referencing the industrial past of the building itself.

This modern solarium is the addition to an existing single family home in Sunrise, Florida. The solarium consists of skylights, travertine floors, exposed tongue and groove ceilings, and a series of sliding glass doors to maximize the relationship between interior and exterior. This bedroom and full bathroom are part of an adventuresome project my wife and I embarked upon to create a complete apartment in the basement of our townhouse. We designed a floor plan that creatively and efficiently used all of the 385-square-foot-space, without sacrificing beauty, comfort or function – and all without breaking the bank! To maximize our budget, we did the work ourselves and added everything from thrift store finds to DIY wall art to bring it all together. No need to share a laundry in this apartment. In fact, no need to own a laundry basket since the washer/dryer is right in the clothes closet! We found this stacked unit on craigslist for $200.

Completed in 2018, this Westlake Hills duplex, designed by Alterstudio Architects, underwent a dramatic transformation by mixing light & airy with dark & moody design. The goal of the project was to create a more intimate environment using a more saturated and dramatic palette. Additionally, it draws from warmer wood tones such as walnut alongside luxurious textures, particularly in navy, dark grey, and emerald green. The end result is an elegant, timeless, and comfortable space conducive to cozying up with a book at the end of a long day.

The powder room is tucked beside the stairs, and lit with hidden cove lights, meant to give a warm, soft glow. The floor tile that folds up the wall, washed with a warm glow it becomes an architectural night-light as you head up to bed.

This interlocking concrete permeable paver driveway is set in an ashlar pattern to create a decorative but versatile look. This driveway allows stormwater to infiltrate into the ground - instead of running off the landscape into streams and rivers where is can cause flooding and pollution.

This 3 BR, 3 1/2 bath home allows the owners to live on one level most of the time. The Master Suite is on the main level along with the Living Room, Kitchen, Dining, pantries, Sun Room and service areas. The upper level houses two ample bedrooms while the lower level supports a rec center, media room, wine cellar, shop and full wet bar. Conceived as a Great Room house, the main level is designed as one seamless space that flows onto an ample deck overlooking the rear yard. We also incorporated a variety of green building techniques - photo-voltaic shingles on the roof of the garage to generate a portion of the home's energy, a super insulated building envelope, rain water harvesting, high performance windows and doors, a high efficiency heat pump, low flow bath & kitchen fixtures, Energy Star appliances and LED lighting - that greatly reduced this structure's carbon footprint. All of the strategies amounted to a 30% reduction in the energy consumption in this home relative to comparable structures.
