The homeowners were tired with the look of their home and in need of creative help! With a Mansard style roof they thought there was no hope for creating an updated look and were just going to settle for a new front door and windows. With a worn out picture they had saved for years of an arched style
style entry they loved, frankly at first glance just looked impossible to duplicate, we went to work! Finishing touches include new copper roofs, custom made African mahogany entry door system and perfectly sized pendant light made the homeowners picture a reality!
What roofing material is this? Thank you.

Mansard roofs are closely related to gambrel or barn roofs, but gambrel roofs have two sloped sides with a gable at either end, and a mansard roof is a hip roof with 4 sloping sides.

stone is very nice. Like slate roof!
Mansard roofs have many variations. They can have sloped sides that are straight or convex, and the rooftop can have a flat or low slope capping the steeper face where the dormers are placed. Browse more mansard roof photos

What type of shingles were installed on the mansard roof?
a slate roof, it's the flashing that gives out first and not the slates. You can replace the flashing and have a serviceable roof again. Here in the east coast, that's often done on period houses from the 1930s. If the roof is older than that though, you would need to replace the whole roof. This
convincing. If you do put back a slate roof again, the upside is that, with a durable flashing material like copper, the roof can last 60 years which is far longer than most other types.
I have a second empire Victorian home with a deteriorating slate roof .any suggestions/ comments on what to do
This is expensive and there certainly isn't anything out there that is much cheaper but also looks like a slate roof. You can use a less expensive slate such as those imported from China versus a Vermont slate. Some of the colors are fairly durable but not all of them so you would have to research that
