why is there a tv in the small dining area?

Flair... there's a TV in that area because we do alot of sitting in there. We watch during dinner, have the news on while getting ready for work, etc.

Also, the floors are black slate tile... A detail I forgot to mention.

Beautiful space! Can't go wrong with blue hues- it will also make the white stone in your fireplace stand out. You seem to have great natural light and a nice open plan so a little color would look great! Blue and orange (your sofa) look great together if the hues are right. As it happens we create nautical home accents on the east coast- no shell-covered toilet seats, we promise :-) Here's an example each of an accent table and tray. Both can also be used as wall art. For beach with no cheese, whitewash the pine dining set. Find art with an oceanscape you love for above the FP.

The blue hues would compliment the orange sofa, just make sure to keep the hues similar in value. I love the beach photography to decorate with. You could also use earthy accents such as some shells, beach grasses in vases, sand etc. If you wanted more color or texture in the living room you could change out the curtains for a soft orange or blue, whatever accent colors you choose to use.
