staircase question

is the only staircase in the house? am looking to add a partial 2nd level and am considering this type of staircase but am worried about not being able to get furniture upstairs

This is the only stair in the interior of the house. There is an additional exterior stair (with a straight run and plenty of headroom) that connects the back yard with a second story deck, off a bedroom. At the time, (2000) building codes allowed a spiral stair to serve no more than 400sf on the 2nd floor. Check local codes for any changes to this code
