Indecisive

My husband and I are redecorating our general living space this summer. We are ripping up the carpet and putting in hard wood floors. Our floor plan is relatively open, with the living room and dining room barely separated, so we want to keep the color pallet the same for both rooms. We are having trouble deciding though.

We are your and debating between a closed color pallet and a more eclectic set. We don't want it to look too old and stuffy, but I want it to look intentional (not just thrown together). How can we accomplish eclectic and young without it looking accidental? Or how can we keep a closed color pallet and make it look young and comfy instead of rigid??
