Absolutely. You see plenty of mixing and matching these days. We combined ORB & brushed steel in our new home.

Yes! I have brushed nickel and chrome and I like it because they complement each other. In my opinion, it's about balance not matching.

Yes, just don't mix metals in the same room. I often do oil rubbed bronze in living and dining rooms and go to brushed nickel in the kitchen. But dame is true for bathrooms, don't mix chrome and nickel in the same bathroom. Keep in mind when it comes time to sell, it's best if your bathrooms aren't mixed, pick a color and stick with it.

But what we did was brushed nickel faucet and cabinet hardware in the kitchen, laundry room and key drop entry, (stainless steel appliances in kitchen) with a large ceiling fan in the great room (part of the kitchen) that's brushed nickel with fan paddles that match the kitchen cabinets. In the 3 baths ,oil rubbed bronze lighting fixtures, oil rubbed bronze bath plumbing fixtures and cabinet hardware.

I agree with Darla--don't mix in the same room too much. The only thing I mixed in the same room was my oil rubbed bronze island pendants and the ORB chandelier in the kitchen nook.
