GREAT room and such lovely furniture to use in it. What about putting the hutch on the wall to the right of where it is angled. I will be honest and admit I am not a fan of angled furniture and I think this piece deserves its own wall.

Turning it would mean the table also needs to turn.....is that ok with you and the room? Are there any leaves that can come out?

The record player gets lost in the windows and I love the windows nice and open. Wondering if the record player could fit under that tall window to the left of the hutch and then it could even be set up like a buffet/serving table?

Ya kno, I think it's better this way too, just not quite as much passing space but I think that's ok. Thank you for the compliment! Love my new house but decorating is challenging for me :). I could move the record player but would probably look too small for that wall. Plus I was thinking of adding a longer skinny buffet for function. What about curtains in the nook?

Yes, that's true. I was mainly thinking for adding color. I have shades that you can see I pulled down to try and get better picture lighting so they act as privacy as needed but aren't very attractive.

Would Roman Shades be an option for you, using the colors from the rug? What do you have on the windows in the other part of this open space? Anything to tie in with?

Sure, that's an option, currently all the windows have the same white shades. It's an open living/dining area right now but I will soon move the tv to another room to create a formal sitting room on the other side. On a different note here's the dining room lighting fixture.

This is a gorgeous house. No curtains. You have classic craftsman woodwork that absolutely should be left exposed. You can do inside-mount roman shades, but do not obscure those beautiful window casings.

The current light fixture is too high and too small. The black chandelier could work if it's large enough. Hang it so it's 32-36" above the table.

No on the Eames chairs. They're totally wrong for the space.

Pick your paint last, after the other stuff--window coverings, rug, chairs--is decided.

If you are redoing the living room area and moving the tv out, guessing the couch might move then, too? Still no room for the table to turn directions?

Definitely need a chandelier and replace the chairs with something simple. One suggestion on the new chairs

....cont. find chairs the fit along the long sides of the table (can even use a bench on 1 side). Avoid putting chairs at the head of the table. Makes the room seem cramped when it's clearly not. Also don't paint the heirloom.

Er612, could I put the end chairs along two of the walls to get them away from the table but still available to pull up as needed.

White chairs would look smashing, but then I'd go with a bit more vibrant rug. How about painting the chairs you have--try white chalk paint--and then get or make some chair pads in a vibrant fabric?

Along the way, I also tried Tolix chairs here, but never posted the photo. Here they are in turquoise, just so you can see the color.

And the shell chairs in green the way I found them, then after I painted them in white.

Wow, that's so cool, Grover! Love all the pics. About my current chairs- it's a strange situation. I have three high ladder backs, and three of the other vintage. I guess I could try the three ladder in the back and put the three shorter ones in the front, no side chairs. The three small chairs are upholstered so I could update them. I'll have to give that some thought- I am trying to "finish" this room off and I really want to love it so I wouldn't want to put too much time in to painting and such only to still wish I had different chairs. I still like the white shell chairs- and I really like the grey paint. The rug- I think I might want more blues/pinks/boho rather than orange but there are tons of vibrant, global rugs out there that would probably fit the bill.

I agree with everyone else that it's a beautiful room! You have a lot of space, so the furniture is a little lost-I'd suggest large artwork/photos for the windowless wall(s) and I think you could really jazz this room up by adding a nice splash of color. So, if you get some artwork with nice colors, you could tie it in with the rest to the room by pulling out one of the main colors, and getting curtains and a nice, large rug in the same/similar colors. Wouldn't have to be anything crazy, just accent colors. Putting large pieces like the wall decor and rug will fill up the space nicely and they're a good way to pull everything together. You could even paint the trim the color too, although white trim always look nice!

What do you think of the chairs and the hutch in this configuration? I would need to bring in the 3rd high ladder back that I banished to the backyard... A milk paint experiment gone wrong :) hehe

So nice that your table is large enough to have 3 chairs on each side. And by not having one at the end, the hutch works next to the table better, too.

I like that configuration a lot. Now that I see the shell chairs in the room, they don't seem so bad, but if you want an eclectic bohemian look, you could use a lighter rug. The hutch, table, and current rug really suck up the light.

If you need extra chairs, I'd just put them on either side of the hutch when they're not in use.

Hi again, I think I found some chairs that I can get for around $100-$150 and refinish in white. What do you think? They aren't the eames shell chairs I wanted but these are a great price and remind me of the décor demon example you sent, grover.

Thanks for all the help! This is how my dining room is shaping up so far. I ended up buying the chairs and painting them and reupholstering. Can anyone think of final touches to add? Or any changes to make? How about art or centerpiece??
