What to do above the backsplash?

We are in the process of building our forever home. We were given a lot of kitchen choices such as selecting our cabinet color, backsplash and counters. We could not choose our cabinet or backsplash layout. We are trying to figure out what to do with the space above the backsplash near the breakfast bar. Open shelves? Art? Install another cabinet? Other ideas are welcome!

It looks odd now, but when everything is finished and you're moved in the space won't look so empty. Wait before adding anything that'll put holes in the wall.

If after all is complete, it still looks awkward, I would put open shelves.. For cook books, or cute dishes you like.
