Tell him he should pick his own art. Does he have some interests that could help with this, like does he like car racing or sking etc What ever piece you choose I would suggest a wide white mat and an aluminum frame to give contrast with the wall. This is a sking one for an idea

Personally, I love a world map in an office. It makes me feel like I have been somewhere or at least working on it. Here is one in a kids room but, it would be nice on a smaller scale. What are his interests? Will you be using the office too?

What I did at my desk was put something behind me of personal interest. I am a former US Marine and I also like to fly planes. So a large Marine Corp plane doing something unique in high detail is what I did.
If he likes sports find a large sport picture. Whatever his hobby is or something unique that he likes should be there. When people come visit his office it creates conversation and common ground.
