Are 2 colors of hardwood floor OK?

I have blond 3/4 inch hardwood floor in my family room. We are discussing putting a darker color of the same in the living room dinning room. these rooms are not connected but are on the same floor and you can see from one to the other across the kitchen area. Is this considered OK or is it a design no no?

I think it should be okay. Might be slightly noticeable if the shades are very different, but it probably wouldn't be that much of a problem. You can also use furniture/art/etc. to create an impression of different 'spaces/zones' which would mean that the different areas look like just that; different areas, as opposed to one area of mix and patch decor.

Perferrably using the same / similar color wood flooring on each level.
