New House Practically Blank Slate

Just moved into new house--open concept living, dining, kitchen. Could use some help with furniture arrangement, windows, etc. Plant ledges in living room, vaulted ceiling, lighted nicho. Television will be in space next to fireplace. Want storage ideas for CDs/DVDs.

The back pillows are semi-attached so will be tricky. I'll do them next and the rest will be a piece of cake!

Wow. Looks great so far. I see the art that will go with it. Looks fabulous!
You do an amazing job and the colors are soooo perfect in your home. The style of your couch is my favorite!
Good morning Nancy, the cushions look great ;0)!! Have you done semi-attached cushions before? I was thinking, if you make a slip-on cover that you can velcro to the cushion where it is attached.
Nancy, you are a very talented lady ;0)!

The sofa will be beautiful Nancy!

Nancy, did the RFA help you any?
The procedure on my back was a complete success! No more heavy-duty drugs for me! Loving my new mobility--amazing!

I have made a slipcover for the chair that was part of the set, which I have since given to my daughter.
Wonderful news about your back procedure!!!!!!!
Nancy, I am so happy for you, because I know how you must have suffered. I bet you feel like a NEW person ;0).
Where and what did you have done? Need recs for neck/back surgery. Glad yours worked.
So happy to learn your procedure was so successful!
Deco, I had a procedure called radio frequency ablation. They burned the nerves that run over the facet joints. Yes, I'm trying to avoid back surgery/fusion.
Since the nerves do regenerate, however, they can't guarantee how long it will last. The usual time frame is 6 to 18 months.
I think this one's going to be titanium plates replacing vertebrae.
Well, maybe I spoke too soon... OR, I put it to too hard a test. Went to a quilt show at the convention center, and paid dearly for that fiasco! They didn't have many chairs in the contest quilt area to rest in, or I would have been fine. Popped a pill just to get through it. Oh well, I'll reserve judgment until a few more weeks have gone by.
Oh noo Nancy, I am sorry to hear that, please let us know what happens. Will you be getting in touch with the doctor who performed the procedure?
I have my check-back appt on Feb 25th. He did say ir could take a few weeks to have the full effect, though.
Let us know how you do with this procedure.
    Sure. Will do.
Hi Nancy. So glad to hear that you are doing well.

Hi army!!!!!! How the heck are you? I think of you often and wondered if you'd completely given up on this Houzz experience. So nice to see/hear you!

I am fine Ann and don't want to drudge up old stuff on Nancy's thread but all is well. I didn't give up on Houzz but all the craziness was too much for me.

Hi all! Progress on the sofa slipcover:

Hardest part is done. The rest should go quickly, cause I'm doing larger pieces!

Wow, I didn't realize how long it has been! Thanks for writing Ann. My health issues have gotten worse, I'm afraid. Just hanging in here waiting to figure out what Ima gonna do. Anything involves surgery, but trying to decide which comes first! Facing possibility of several. I have been staying off Houzz pretty much, I was just too addicted and spending too much time on here.

Oh boy I feel a 'yes' as to my own houzz addiction... from one houzzer to another I am sorry you're not well. If you want to, tell if you think one continuing education class I'm considering taking would be enough [for an average person like myself] to be able after that to reupholster a couch....? Thanks there Nancy! -- Deb

Nancy, Praying for you to feel better SOON and enjoy that new life you have been creating.

Deb, I think one CE class would be enough for you to learn to reupholster. You sew already, right? So that's something you wouldn't have to learn in addition. I learned how to reupholster and slipcover on my own, but that's my style--hands on learning.

Nancy, I've very glad to hear from you but so sorry your health issues have gotten worse. I haven't had to have surgeries but my husband has had three back surgeries and all the recoveries have been rough. Wishing you all the best with those upcoming challenges. Remember, we're here to chat with if you need company. But, I sure know what you mean about a Houzz addiction. I'm highly addicted and will certainly need to cut back at some time.

Nancy, thank you. I might just do that, as yes I have basic sewing skills. But no machine! hmmm... oh well, but I admire my aunt who wore her own pajama outfits / same pattern... and I recall your own roman shades in stripe.... better health to you! --Deb

Hey all! Update on everything. The Pain/Spine docs said if I could lose weight I would feel a whole lot better. Since I have yo-yo dieted all my life, I decided it was time for a gastric by-pass. I have lost ten pounds since I got home last Wednesday, Nov. 11! The upshot of this whole thing--the surgeon found I was filled with adhesions from all my previous abdominal surgeries, so it took him longer to clear those up than it did for the by-pass! Anyway, you will never believe, but I am pain free, and my back pain is practically completely gone! So apparently, the adhesions were also affecting the nerves, causing "trapped nerve syndrome." Who'd have thought?

Sofa slipcover is done, and I ended up buying another recliner instead of the chair to slipcover, so I will send photos when I can find a new housekeeper!

Have you thought about interviewing a few local designers and having your home done professionally?

Nancy, I am so, so happy for you. Surgery at any age is a challenge and yet the result of this approach solved the pain and is giving you new mobility and freedom. Delightful - know this year you will be doubly thankful for all your blessings (and probably new husband is too!!) Can't wait to hear how your new year comes and gives you new vitality for your projects. Again, glad to see you back and health challenges waning.

Nancy, I am so happy for you to be able to live without daily pain, as I have said before I have lived with daily for many years (no, not husband) ;0). Enjoy life, and sewing/decorating. Looking forward to those photos.

Margo, sounds like you've had NY cheese cake. I thought Cheesecake Factory would have similar to NY cheesecake, but no they don't.
    Margo, coleslaw for hubby.
Kathy, NY pastrami piled much higher than you can open your mouth, oh my goodness, YUM!!
We bought a grill that has 2 sides, one gas, one charcoal so we, no so I can (rat fink hubby) lol, smoke meat or slow cook pastrami, ribs....., I guess we will have to wait for the warm weather again.
