Please help me create a romantic bedroom!

I saw this quilt in the PB store, fell in love with it and must have it. I know my bedroom furniture is too matchy, but I bought it before I knew better. I want to create a romantic bedroom. What would you change to get a romantic bedroom? The ceiling fan must stay. It's a necessity where we live.

I like all that you posted, but I think I do like the darker colors better. I'm going to see if I can get some samples before we decide.

There will be only one upper cabinet on the right-hand side, so I'll have room on that wall for some artwork. Maybe it won't look so utilitarian with artwork. I ordered this folding rack today to go on the wall opposite the washer/dryer. It unfolds out when you need it, then back down when you don't.

Oh wow, I could use one of those! I have coat hooks on the one and only wall it could go on, so it would be a toss-up between convenience of hanging clean clothes and hanging up sweaters and my beloved fleece vest that I seem to put on and take off throughout the day.

I have to admit, I wish my laundry room was just a tad bit bigger!

Where did you get that thingamadoey, though?

    Pretty pic...

Lol, your link to the clothes hangers just now came through on my email, Deb. Thanks for the info!

It pays to wait until the last minute to decorate for Christmas. I got these three stockings and three boxes of faux cranberries for my hurricane lamps from PB for $27! They were half price and I finally used my $25 off $50 certificate. I wanted some crystal trees, but they're sold out. :(

I think I'm ready for Christmas. Are you? I've got to do my wrapping tomorrow. I didn't think hubby's gift was going to make it, but I just checked my email and it shipped today with an estimated delivery date of Sunday, Dec. 21st!?!?

Hi Debbie, I know I'm not a regular here...... but I just wanted to say have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year with your family and friends! Very nice decorations too. :)

BTW I'll say it again....your rooms are great! ;)

Happy Birthday Happyleg!!!!! :) Have a great Sunday! :)

Wow! Just trying to catch up on all the posts I missed. It looks like much progress has been made. I love the wall color you are going with. And the pic with the 2 cats on your bed is priceless! lol!
You've created a very warm and inviting home, Debbie! Enjoy the holidays in it :)
    Merry Christmas! Love the decor!

I can't find the wreath I wanted to put above the mantel :-\ Then, a friend sent pics of her Christmas trees. Dang! Why can't I do stuff like that? Happyleg, I hope you had a GREAT birthday!
YOU CAN DO STUFF LIKE THAT! Look at your room again and you shall see!!!
If I got enough decorations to come even close to a tree like that, I think Mel would throw me out. He thinks I have too many decorations now and what you see is pretty much it.

BTW, the lights on the tree and mantel are not near as bright as they look in the pic. I'm getting a little frustrated with this new camera.

I had a good b'day with hubby before his night shift work. Make a wreath out of the bulbs. It will be colorful. Do it with hot glue.
I watched a video today where a woman made a wreath out of inexpensive Christmas balls. She made a ring with a wire hanger and strung them on the wire. I'm going to try it. But, probably next year.
You may foget. I guess you'll have to like the snowmen!

Hi ladies! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! We sure did. We're all enjoying our new toys.

Lauren got us this picture for Christmas. She's so proud of it and hubby and I really like it, too. I want to display it in a prominent spot. Do you think I can make it work above the mantel once the Christmas decorations are gone?

There's a jigsaw puzzle on the coffee table, so the lanterns are currently out of place. It's a Christmas tradition my mother started years ago.
Gosh, do you have any pics to repost as to what the mantle looked like before Christmas? I cannot remember where it left off.
Well, it won't be able to stand alone due to its small size, but possibly as part of a grouping?
I was thinking some kind of grouping, too. I posted this pic back in September. I think the original is on the memory card for my old camera and I can't get to it. I don't know how to copy it from Houzz in a larger size.
She sure chose the right colors to play in this grouping.....I remember this now and still love it a lot!

Would it fit, leaning, in front of that larger one, but on the other side, where the tallest candle stick is? Overlapping about as much as the other one does.
I have an idea! Here's a close up of Lauren's picture. I'm thinking it would pair well with my barn pic that keeps coming up.
    That looks so nice!
I like your grouping but would still like to see some color in there, maybe in a couple round vases. :)
I have the same quilt. Love it. How about a light throw. Also can you do lighter drapes. Both color and fabric. Maybe with grommets.
All my walls are light French gray from Behr. It's in my opinion a neutral. Blue gray. Check it out.

Now that I see that piece up close that way, it truly is special, isn't it!!! And I do love that barn pic.

Also, just wondering if there is a place in your foyer for it? We have our name that way in our back foyer.
The picture is special! I don't really have room in my tiny foyer. I have my mother's magnolia painting hanging in my study. It's the first thing one sees when they walk in the front door. Maybe I could find another place for the painting, like the guestroom, and put Lauren's pic there.
    I like your mom's here.
Laundry room or hallway. Above a light switch.
Mom's magnolias are perfect where you have them....and the frame looks so nice with the cabinet there, too.
Those small horizontal pieces can be a bit of a challenge to place, but I'm sure you'll find the perfect spot.
OK, the new pic may have to go in the hallway to the bedrooms. I don't have any pictures on the walls in the hallway and have been meaning to hang something in there. I will include it with other family photos so that Lauren knows it's special.
Actually....think.....that piece with family photos! SCORE....sounds perfect! And the sizes will work together, too.

Hi ladies! I hope everyone had a great holiday. It was so nice taking some time off and spending time with family.

Lauren's birthday is coming up in March. She hasn't had a party the last two birthdays for various reasons (not her choice), so I'd like to make it up to her this year. She wants to have a slumber party. I'd like to get the family room fixed up to accommodate slumber parties since they seem to be getting more popular with her. She had two over the holidays. We don't really have the room. I need to get a new rug for the family room and a couple of air mattresses and make that room the slumber party room. I started a new thread for rug help. I haven't committed to a jute rug yet. I found this indoor/outdoor rug on Joss & Main. For cleaning and care it says, "Just sweep, vacuum, or rinse off with a garden hose." That makes me wonder if it might be rough. What do you think? It's 100% Polypropylene.

Hi Deb! Yes, indoor-outdoor rugs are a bit rough - you wouldn't want a baby crawling around on them. But, for a slumber party - and everyday use - they are fine. They don't feel horrible to walk on in bare feet or anything.

In the family room, it's a bit of a trade-off of p,use comfort and practicality. If your family likes to drink and snack while watching TV, then indoor/outdoor rugs are a great way to go.

You would still use a rug pad under it, as for a regular rug.
As the mother of former teenagers, definitely a hosable surface! It will be less stressful! And I have an indoor/ outdoor rug under my kitchen dining table in Maine that looks like a beige natural fiber rug...bought it years ago from Restoration Hardware.

I went to Pier 1 at lunch today to look at the art karemore suggested for my living room. Their inventory showed one in stock, but we couldn't find it. But, I did find this vase and thought it might look good on the large chest of drawers where the orchid print was. Not with those flowers, though. I always get accessories that are too small. This vase is not small. It's 26" tall and weighs a ton. Yes, no, maybe?

When you get home, will you post a pic of where you are thinking of putting this, along with what is already there? I am going to be nagging and nagging now, to keep money in the account for Lauren's trip, so we are going to be extra careful with renovation money, girlfriend. LOL
  • 11 years ago
You're right, I am going to have to be extra careful with my spending. I told Lauren that, too. She is really good at spending money. She learned from a pro.

I would make it less symmetrical by hanging a single painting over the bed.....or a single anything.........too matchy.

Knock knock ,hello, is there an update?
