It looks like "horse tail" to me. I'm in Central Florida and we planted it in built in planters along the front of our house. It spreads quickly so it does need to be contained (it still sneaks out every once in a while). It reminds me of "snake grass" that we used to pick when I was a kid in Michigan. Neither of these plant names are scientific (obviously!)
