I think the brown predominant colour can be taken off! Put more white. Remove the wall paper and change the mirro (because of the frame) put something withe too, because the objetcs are white.

Definitely remove the wall paper and update your light fixtures, maybe move on top if mirror to a more transitional piece.

I would change the wall color.... something subtle, because I would keep the fabulous vanity, however, I'd paint it a BRIGHT color.... like a turquoise. I'd change the fixtures and hang some artistic shelves..... something recycled. I would change the top of the vanity to a more sleek modern stone..... I'd remove the lighting to either more modern sconces or overhead lighting. And I'd place a wider mirror.......... is what I'd do! ;)

If you want to change the room color, I'd remove the wallpaper and paint first by all means. Just painting might be enough to refresh the space. After new paint, shop for prints to reflect your home and personality. I wouldn't paint the cabinet personally. Instead, you might consider adding a backsplash...it doesn't need to be more than an inch or two. Grab a few decorative tiles you like at your DIY store and see if you like the look. You can always return them if they don't work for you. Either match the back splash with your current counter top or I love small glass tiles which add interest and depth. Perhaps a sleeker, bigger mirror hung within an inch of the new backsplash would add a lift as well. You could tie in new accent lights which will give a new vibe. If you have more budget, go for new faucets, new countertop (to blend with the wood...perhaps a darker stone, even the shape of counter top can be updated if you like). Counter tops are relatively in expensive since many stone cutters have end pieces. Since the counter would be custom cut you could opt for a new sink if you need/want one.

I think with your current fixtures as they are, you could change the wall to something cooler and more neutral. I could see "apothecary" type stuff looking nice in there -- here's a page showing the style I mean:

I have found that unless a bathroom is freaking huge, most of them do best without a lot of different colors going on. (My parents moved into a house where the bathroom was mustard yellow tile with a dark purple accent wall -- just, no.) Just keep it simple and think of the general feeling you want to have in there. If you want your white fixtures to stand out, go darker on the walls. If you want your cabinet / mirror frame / faucets, go lighter. It looks like you have a tile floor which might be kind of tan -- I think if it was me I would do a wall color that is halfway between your floor color and white, then add some little touches similar to what I linked to above.

I think a paint job could be all you need! I would start there and then decide, I can't see your sconces to tell if that needs changing or not-

I am on a total gray kick lately, and your white vanity top and toilet would look amazing paired with gray. Lose the wallpaper (and rug), paint the walls a muted shade of gray, and paint the vanity a saturated gray like Benjamin Moore Galveston Gray. It's really not bad at all. I agree with going the gray route, will make all the diff!

Lest Expensive and Most Punch....Install permanent mirror across entire wall behind toilet and basin and frame with simple brown molding. Have your lighting fixtures drilled and installed into the mirror on both sides of basin. Mount unframed/wrapped, colorful picture above toilet paper holder. Use brown, color of wall paper ( looks like yellow) and for sure reds/oranges in the picture to repeat the colors you have. The reds and oranges add warmth and Punch.

I love it the way it is. What is with everybody doing gray? I would just change the switchplates.

I know...grey is popular for some reason. My exterior is grey, but that's it for me. I'm not putting the color down, because I have seen some lovely rooms with grey being the predominant color. I had a friend that painted her walls grey, but they got tired of it, pretty quickly.

I would change the vanity countertop, and paint the wall a color from the countertop. Hopefully a lighter shade. Hang some art or shelves, and change to an oval mirror. I can't tell what the light fixture looks like, but maybe it needs to be changed. Your towel rack looks small for the space. Maybe changing to a small bar of the same burnished bronze.

I know some people have advised to paint the vanity, but it's just so beautiful, I can't go there.

Didn't look bad to me either. It looks very traditional. Is it that that is no longer your style? Get rid of the clutter on the counter. Add some artwork. You could also do a decorative mirror that doesn't match the vanity if you wanted to.

I like your bathroom

You could spend lots and replace everything or try stripping the wallpaper and paint, perhaps even stencil the walls(and the ceiling). You could paint the mirror & vanity in black, white or even use a metalic finish, just keep in mind the flooring!
