Dark Great Room

I am building a new home and am concerned that the family room might be dark due to the large covered porch on front and the room being in the middle of the home. Do you have any suggestions? The ceilings are 9' and family room has cathedral ceiling.

If possible install some skylights for the family room.

Also, paint the room a lighter color and make sure you have enough lighting and the correct kind. And if it is not too late, plenty of windows.

If you aren't in a climate where it gets too hot adding skylights to the covered porch would be less expensive. If the porch is flooded with light, the family room will benefit.
