Family sign hung only a few inches from the mantle; not centered between the mantle and ceiling trim. Designers can voice better on this, but I feel complimentary photos and something tall on one end. look forward to an after pic. :)

I vote the sign. The mirror is reflecting a ceiling fan and who wants two ceiling fans? ;)

That plate distracts from the name. Move it and see waht you think.

You made your decision about placement of the sign and the mirror so no comment about that. Now make your mantle look better by putting sconces on either side of the sign or an asymmetrical arrangement of something taller on the left on the mantle and nothing on the right.
As for the piece ( which by the way in our opinion is WAY too close to the mantle/fireplace, it almost creates the same feeling in its use of space, it is looking like a furniture showroom, if you get what we mean), but if you like it there, then PLEASE take those large accessories off that small cabinet , add a decent stack of great books, one exotic plant or something or maybe even nothing.
Remember, you now have something higher than mid way up the sign, on the left, nothing on the right because you are almost on top of your next display....

THERE IS TOO MUCH GOING ON HERE.

Thank you for your comments. I agree I need to so some work with the accent pieces but I was trying to work with what I had. I did move the plate before reading this. I like your idea about plants and books perhaps!

I would move the lantern on the table to mantel and plate plate on table?
