If a sectional is going against the wall will there be room for drapes behind it? What does the sectional look like?

You might do either, with an eye to varying the scale if you use a geometric. Consider decorative trim on your sheers as a compromise, if you want more window interest, but can't find the right geometric. An area rug sounds a good idea - I'd work out the window treatment first.

The sectional is chocolate brown with nailhead trim, it is U shaped and will point toward you as you enter the room. I will distance it out 6 inches or so from the wall with and from the windows for breathing room. So, the curtains can be swags half length, romans, long drapes or anything really. the side walls each have two additional windows of the same size and length on a white background.

I LOVE this look. Consider shutters of white or old lace panels for curtains to shabby chic it up a bit.

I would go with a solid. either drape or roman or even wood blinds in the white of the wall and background wallpaper color. Or a solid drape or roman shade in a light color of one of the colors in the wallpaper - perhaps a light blue if there is a blue in the wallpaper.

There's a royal blue in butterflies, but I think the lightest color is going to be a shade of the violet. Then there's also a tangerine orange.

I would go either violet or a lighter shade of the blue that's in the wallpaper.

I would go for sheer linen curtains in white that hang ceiling to floor

Thanks Sophie, it's more of a velvet, not leather. I understand it's not ideal, but it isn't a good fit in our family room right now and I was hoping to make it work in this room instead of getting rid of it.

Here's a fine example of dark sofa and floral wallpaper. It's just a matter of coordinating accents from the wallpaper colors. When you click on the title of the photo you can see more pictures of the room.

I would choose the brightest orange color from your florals which will look great with brown.

The other option would be drapery the color closest to the background color of the wallpaper, then choose the colorful shades for accents.

Where would you gauge your comfort level?

I also love the polka dot and sheer. I don't know if I want to go quite as bold as the chevron. But I have been thinking about a moroccan print rug in orange or something.

You don't mention what kind of window treatments you particularly like, and the most important factor is if you need privacy and light control in those windows? If neither of those things is an issue (which would be a rarity), then you might consider sheer Hunter Douglas Duette honeycomb shades. If privacy and/or light control are important, then look at Hunter Douglas Silhouette, Pirouette or Nantucket. This will give you complete control over light, heat, and privacy, as well as help insulate the windows as well. Oh? And did I mention how beautiful they are, and that you'd likely find a very unique color to enhance your floral feature wall as well? Good luck with your project!

If you are going to use the same window treatment around the room, then I would pull in the orange. It will pair nicely with the sectional, but still add energy and color. If you do sheers or a white linen on the white walls, then your room will be out of balance. Lastly, bring in the other colors from the wallpaper using small accents & pillows.

I am leaning toward sheers with a little texture or detail in orange or violet on the edges or border. I will definitely add a lot of cute mixed pattern floral and stripe throw pillows with bright colors and neutrals taken fro the wallpaper.

If you are stuck on that wallpaper, at least tea wash it so that it will work with the browns. And go with a less bright white on the adjacent walls. Better yet, go much darker on them. The example posted that actually works isn't so primary school bright and dark brown. It is muted, with the more ivory background, and a softer, lighter brown sofa.

I've tea stained fabric before, but didn't realize you could tea stain wallpaper. Interesting. I was going for a less bright white on the walls, but I am apparently no good at matching up swatches. This was supposed to be more of a cream.

Cream would be lovely. I wouldn't re-address the walls, though, until the end of the decorating process, when you have a much better idea of what is needed for balance. I like that you straightway were attracted to a high contrast curtain choice that would make your orange shades zing, and bring out the blue undertones in the wallpaper, playing up the cool tones in the room to offset the warmth of the furniture. You may go with something plainer in the end, but what this tells me is that your instincts are toward more dynamic choices than many here are comfortable with - follow your instincts. It is much easier to tone down a room than to add energy to a lackluster decision. You also seem to have a strong sense of your direction, so I look forward to seeing the results, and hope you will share them w us.

Possibly. To Lightstyles' point re. privacy, you will need tiebacks w that style. The right choice will work w all your softgoods selections, so consider them all together before pulling any triggers.

I like your choice. Make sure it's returnable, in case you don't like it up, but I would try it. (And to studio's point above as well) If you do want privacy, I would do white blinds of some type with it as well.
