Clara, I can't tell from the photos provided the height of the "bench" wall. But I think the screen would be too tall behind the bench . It will look awkward and you would see the back of the screen, which may be unfinished,once you are on the second level. To break up the horizontal line in the foyer you might think about incorporating a tall plant where the umbrella stand is now. That should create the vertical feel you are looking for and create softness to counter the tile floor, the bench and wall. Another option is eliminating the bench all together and a shallow console ( 15-18") with a pair of lamps and 1 / 2 table top accessories That would definitely break up the horizontal feel of the foyer.
