Actually the cabinets (and all the millwork in the apartment) was a laminate product - hot off the shelf new Formica product called 'Smokey Brown Pear'. Not your grandmother's Formica, though... Very durable, attractive and easy to work with...and the price point is incomparable with respect to something like an engineered or even rift-cut wenge, which we had originally wanted. Client's budget needed to be respected and the millwork was a major element in the overall scheme - rather than sacrifice the concept, the material choice was reconsidered and I think we still got a great result at the end of the day.
