Picked up the mirror today! Yay! I think about 1" of the top edge will be mirror will be behind the bottom 1-1/12" of the light globes. I'm measuring about 5-6" above the highest part of the faucet. Think that will be okay? Definitely higher than the window sill. I need to make a template so I can make sure I'm centered from side to side and makes it so much easier to make sure the holes for the brackets are level. Of course I'll need to fill in and paint the existing holes.

That sounds about perfect, bamamom.

And filling in the old nail holes just means that you now MUST paint!

I did some painting this evening too.....

I could not handle all the samples any longer, OCD tendencies, so I had to paint. This weekend is my only free weekend until mid Dec!!! So, I've decided to put the painting on the back burner until after the first of the year. I am going to try and paint the guest room next Tuesday while I'm off and get that room ready for our thanksgiving guest that will arrive on the 21st. I feel trying to get that bathroom painted too will be taking on to much right now. DD said it is fine with her leaving the color as is. As I poured the paint into the tray I remembered one reason I liked this color so much. It looked just like melted milk chocolate ice cream or chocolate milk being poured from the carton! :-)
I probably would have started priming the bathroom tonight until I realized I only had a half gallon of primer. So I chalked that up as another sign I'm not supposed to paint, other than touch ups, in there right now.
We actually put accessible beige and silver strand on the wall. Of course I loved both. DD loved the silver strand so it will be one of those when I get around to it. I'm on my iPad right now , but I have a couple of pics of those sample strips on the laptop and I'll try and share later this evening.

The original color....it was custom mixed back in 2002, after son married and his room became the guest room. I had the Ben Moore guys match some piping on a duvet I used in there when I redid the room.

Bamamom, To be honest, the samples on the wall would have driven me crazy too. I could not have lived with them for long. I have such an aversion to "messes", I have to literally put blinders on and talk myself through walking through the garage when I'm looking for something. And it's all my husband - Mr. Packrat himself - to blame! Clutter, and things out of place, drive me insane!

I think your decision is a wise one. Rome wasn't built in a day, and bathroom wall colors aren't chosen in a .......few months? LOLOLOLOL

I can handle messes/stacks for a short period of time and then "BAM" the mess has to be cleared up... I honestly do not know how I survived purging closets, etc. this summer. What was worse, I started cleaning stuff from attic, closests, garage, etc. and had everything stacked in garage or DD's current room.....little pathway through the messes, until this past spring when I joined DDIL for a huge garage sale. Made some good money, but living with everything in boxes or plastic bins for months ahead of time drove me crazy. Was so HAPPY to have the stuff gone!

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One must take their time making these life changing decisions...i.e. paint colors! HA!!!!

I like all three of the colors - I'm not sure which is taking the lead at the moment. If you feel the same way, just keep looking in on them off and on, and eventually the winner will emerge!

I was VERY thankful that the brown blended in when I painted over the samples. I was worried that it would dry lighter and I would end up having lines where old and new paint met. Surprisingly, can't tell where they met. Yay! DD came in from teaching her dance classes around 9, saw the bathroom and made the comment (with sad face) "You painted with the brown. Thought you were going with the blue?" :-) She asked if it was necessary to paint the guest room/grand-daughter room and I said yes, there are places that have been touched up and the paint did not blend like it did in the bathroom. One room will not be so bad. At least I have the color picked, tinted and ready to roll it on. Just need primer.

OK, I'm going with either Natural Linen (full strength) or Silver Strand. Leaning heavily toward SS as that's what your DD wants, and also I pictured a spa blue in there right from the start!

karemore....you were up very late! Yes, still would like the spa feel myself in there. I took pics with the camera right before I went to bed. Looks better with the flash than with the iPad photo...I told my daughter that the paint doesn't work quiet as well as it did with the soft white light bulbs. She said she did not care because she can see better when doing her makeup in the morning! LOL!!!!! I must agree.

I think you've got some very good choices now for when you are ready to paint!

Good morning, Bamamom! Yes, I was up late - kinda. I had an insomnia attack, so I got up and played Houzz lol. Today, I can hardly keep my eyes open, and I have so much to do (isn't that always the way?). My daughter and my one and only grandson are coming for a visit. So, if you don't see me on here for awhile, you'll know why!

I can totally relate with the lighting and makeup - good thing we didn't seriously consider black for those walls!

You might be able to really make your DD's day by getting one of those magnifying mirrors on the extending arm gizmos. I don't have one - yet - but have used them in hotel rooms, and they are the cat's meow!

karemore.....sorry you could not sleep. I really do not like having those nights. I've used one of those mirrors once in a hotel stay myself. It can be good and bad! Ha!

I hope you have a wonderful time with your daughter and grandson! How old is he?

He's 19 months old. Quite a hand full, which is why I asked my daughter to come out - hopefully, she can get some rest and let Grandma and Grandpa help out for a week!

Bama, I'm getting so farsighted, those mirrors are fast becoming a necessity! It's definitely part of my bathroom reno plan to include one.

I do keep a 10X magnification mirror in my vanity drawer for doing my eye makeup in the mornings. However, I have noticed of late, I can still have a little difficulty seeing. I tried the contacts about a month ago, gave it three weeks and after the second one tore and left a little piece in an eye, the doctor said I was not doing contacts! :-O New glasses arrived yesterday, so trying to adjust to those. Thankfully I'm only needing for computer/reading etc.

Well I finally hung the mirror. Did it by myself earlier today. I'm a little "iffy" about it. Thoughts?

I think the mirror looks great! I think it might look better lowered two to three inches.

Maybe align the bottom of the mirror with the bottom of the window sill?

Thanks Debbie.... That's kind of what I was thinking. It's actually level with the top of window sill but I was wondering if it would look better level with the piece under the sill. Not sure what that piece is called.

Ann....I did not see your post until after I arrived at work this morning. I will try and upload a photo this evening of the mirror with lights off.

I'm wondering if the mirror is really to tall for the space. If I lower a couple of inches, then will have the issues of water splashes from sink. And, the top portion will still be under the globes of the light fixture. I'm wondering if my globes can actually face up? I know the ones I have in my bathroom can, but those are different style and brand.

I do like how much brighter the area over the sink is without the black wrought iron mirror hanging there.

Hmmm - very interesting thought about turning the lights upward. I think you might then have less light in the area, but I bet that might work.

I think you are just right when you say you will be cleaning that mirror ALL the time if it gets closer to the faucet/sink. Just went and looked in my bathroom to make sure, and yes, we did hang our globes facing up in there by choice and there is plenty of light. No room for them to face down with the style I wanted in there and I am so happy with them this way. Rather a dark space, too, with the window being a ways from the mirror, so yes, the lights are fine. I have 4 of them, though.

I think my MIL did the same thing (flipped the light direction) in one of her bathrooms in order to hang a particular mirror and the results were great.

I'll try the lights first and then if that doesn't work, lower the mirror a couple of inches. I was looking at pictures of mirrors/faucets and pedestal sinks, plus I think I read this as well, that the mirror should be about 5-6" above the faucet. Similar to artwork hung over furniture. I'm right on the 5 1/2" above the faucet. :-/ I really don't want to go smaller (height) as I think it will look to small or hung to high. Can't be chopping off the tops of our heads! :-)

The new bulbs are the "bright" white so everything is much brighter in there now without those soft white bulbs! So facing toward the ceiling might not be a bad thing.

Maybe would be better.

And as if my mirror issue isn't enough (LOL) the hot water heater decided to die this morning! Plumbers and new water heater due around 4 today. Joy!

The current mirror is 31 1/2" tall. This one from Lowes is 28" tall and 22 wide. Current is 23 1/2" wide. Should I just exchange?

Looking at pics of the globes on the light bar, I'm nervous about turning them toward the ceiling as they would be higher than the window trim. :-/

Oh, maybe I would do that (exchange) if you can. The oval one is very nice and the slightly smaller size might be just right.

I like the oval one from Lowe's better, too. Can you return the other one?

Thanks Ann. I don't think it will be a problem to exchange. I'll try and order today and it should be here by the 19th. Just move some anchor screws over, patch new holes and touch up paint! Ha! Now daughter is going to need to be very careful with this one till new one comes in. I saved all of the outer box and wrapping (bubble). Used the interior box as my template to mark my holes and measure. I guess I can throw that in with the mirror, so that whomever purchases it eventually will have something to go by when hanging the mirror. :-) I'm being helpful.

Debbie, Yes. Lowe's should have no problem I even have the "my Lowe's" thing set up so all of my purchases are listed there. .

Smaller 22 x 28 oval has been ordered! Fingers crossed it will work better. Hope it will arrive a couple of days earlier like the first mirror.

Ann...even though I have already ordered the smaller oval mirror, here is photo of the current mirror without the lights on. Daughter said last night she misses the black one. :-) Then she showed the grand daughter and asked her which one she liked better....wink wink! I think they are conspiring against me. I showed the little a picture of the smaller mirror and she said "ummmm, I don't really like it". AH! Silly girls!

Just my 2 cents...I like the current one and think it would be perfect just a couple of inches lower. I'd rather have water splash a little on the mirror than on the drywall :)

indomom......that is a good point. I didn't have much splashing on the old mirror, so this one should be about the same. ??? Hubby is home tonight so maybe I can convince him to hold this one in place a little lower and let me see what it looks like.
abbyjean..... If I remember correctly from when we redid the bathroom, the profile on the wrought iron mirror sticks out and would not clear the globes. If it was hung so the frame was just barely below the globes, it was almost touching the sink. I think the wrought iron mirror was 30 x 40? I had originally wanted it hung vertical but the globes were to low.

Not sure until you get it, but I think my favorite of the three (the original, the current and the oval) will be the oval. I think the slightly smaller size is going to work out very well. Daughter and granddaughter sound just like mine!!!!! My daughter would say the same thing and her daughter would agree with her. In the case of my girls, they would say it just to be difficult, lol!

I like the oval one the best, too. Did you order this one from Lowe's? I've been looking on their site at mirrors for the half bath. The one I got is too tall and I can't return it because I lost the receipt. I think it will work in the entry. I'm just curious how difficult returns are at Lowe's. And, thanks a lot, I found the mirror I got for Lauren's bathroom cheaper at Lowe's. I ordered it from Overstock. After the O discount and O rewards, it came out about the same as Lowe's regular price. I do love that mirror, though, and they have some square ones in the same brand.

Debbie.....that's crazy that lowe's would not accept your return. They can usually find your order in the system and return. I kept the shipping information on the box and saved in a file on the computer the invoice when I ordered. Yes, I have ordered the smaller oval mirror. Says it will be here by Wednesday, I hope earlier. Fingers crossed.

Ann.....those girls! What are we going to do with them. The little is actually my son and daughter in law's little girl. My daughter doesn't have children, but the little and her auntie are best buds! :-)

I did ask hubby to hold current mirror about two inches lower for me last night. Had the bottom of the mirror aligned with the bottom molding of the mirror and it looked nice. So, hurry up and wait now to decide which one to use.
