Wow, honestly I think it look amazing the way it is. White dove is the very best white because it doesn't go yellow or gray. It's just a soft white. I wouldn't do gray, too trendy

The kitchen would still be 'traditional' even after changing the colors.

Going with so much white will wash everything out...add some color for interest. Gray backsplash and BM Mineral Ice for just the island cabinets. White dove for the rest of the cabinets as you suggested.

Sophie is right - changes are so minor - don't do anything to that beautiful kitchen. We've been in construction and real estate sales over 30 years. Always think about resale. The cabinets are professionally painted and going over them might take away from the "factory finish". I would not TOUCH them. I'd add my style to a floor rug, oil paintings, or switch out the lights over the island if they are not your style. If you have money to burn - hire professionals to repaint the cabinets your white dove, but gray is not a great re-sale color. You didn't say what your "style" is - which would have helped.

i would try some simple and less costly changes to see if you can update the space enough for your taste. definitely try a less brown toned wall color, new pendant lamps, some runner rugs on either side of the island (and perhaps a coordinating area rug under the table), perhaps a color on the island only, and consider some coordinating colored/patterned slipcovers on the chairs to add some depth. all of this would all retain the grace of this space but break up the beige overload without costing a fortune or closing down the kitchen during a reno. keep us posted!!

I agree that the changes you are proposing are too much like what you have. Change your floor maybe wood, add color with new chair fabric, new lights over island with some color, repaint walls, etc. There are so many things you can do with this room to make it your own.

Live with that beautiful kitchen until the " change everything to gray" phase passes. Then you will still have your lovely kitchen!

I think it would be a mistake to paint the cabinetry or change the island to a lighter colour. You could add punch with colourful accessories or just change the backsplash to a darker tile.
