Thanks very much for your note. That stair is actually lit by a very bright led strip light in the ceiling above this picture. The stair is pulled away from the wall by a couple of inches, and its wall washing light goes through the gap between the stair and the wall to the basement stair below.

Is this a gold leafed wall or metallic finish? So beautiful.
