the amount of times I hit myself on the edge of those glass shelves when I had this unit in my apartment, I would never advise this for any room.

I've had this system for years and never hit it, no one else in our family hit the shelves, I suspect yours was placed in the way of passage. In this picture, there is no way you would hit your head as all the shelves are out of the way of normal passage...
