A bit more info would be great. As well as above questions, I would like to know what your personal style is. Modern minimalist, eclectic (anything goes as long as I like it), etc. hardwood and modern blinds would do a lot for the room, but that's my taste. I would leave that corner until last, planning the drapes and furniture. Hopefully it will then tell you what to put there, I.e. A table with a plant, a vase on the floor with grasses, a large plant, or one of those picture display screens in wood, sort of ladder shaped.

replacing the carpeting will go along way here since it's quite stained and looks worn. if you are lucky maybe you'll find some hardwoods underneath. if not consider a laminte floor....less money than new carpeting. paint trim, stair spindles and newell post all in a crisp white to help them to fade away and paint the walls in a medium range shade of neutral taupe inspired by the stones. switch fan to a light fixture and take a scrub brush and some scrubbing bubbles to the stone to clean them up. place a solid piece of furniture like a buffet base, a cabinet piece, or a chest of drawers beside the FP and put your tv on it (bonus: extra storage!). float the sofa in the middle to face the focal wall. try some inexpensive bamboo or matchstick shades on the windows and add some longer straight hanging curtain panels from decorative rods over them...this will add some nice texture for very little money. make sure you work within a palette....try: taupe walls, white trim, some black items, some silver toned items and an accent color like a blue, aqua, Kelly green, hot pink, daffodil yellow, etc. large scaled art prints are budget friendly additions (if you do the framing yourself or have the pieces dry mounted). i always have luck at art.com. make sure lamps all have the same shape and color shades...white will brighten up the room even when they aren't on.

This will be a living room, the opening off to this right is the dining room. .. we haven't chceck underneath the carpet yet, we want hardwood floors in all rooms but we can't do it right away... so for now carpet gonna get a deep cleaning. We still not sure about putting the tv in this room, but if gonna meke it look better we may do it.

I gonna change the fan for a nice light.

It's hard to tell how to organize the furniture when we don't know what furniture you have.

Also, seems that if the carpet stain was able to be removed it would have been done before putting the house for sale--unless it's a forclosure.

I would also get rid of the carpet. It looks rather nasty and "perhaps" you may have hardwood floors underneath if you're lucky! I would paint the walls a pale grey and the fireplace just a bit off-white and then the trim a pure white to make it stand out. You could get your "colour" from pillows and accents and if $ is an issue, try a $ store for some of the accents....I've found some really nice things in ours and no one would ever know where it came from....you could also add some colour with your window treatment too if you felt you wanted to replace the ones that are shown in the picture...."if" the ones shown in the picture are white and washable and you're wanting to keep them, then checking the washing instructions to see if they can be bleached to make them look extra clean and crisp....I wouldn't add too many different colours or your room will become too busy but there would certainly be room for some pops of colour....turquoise/tangerine would be stunning....I'd go with a carpet in front of your furniture....your carpet should reach the edges of your furniture though otherwise it will look like it's too small....if you have discount stores nearby you can usually find some good deals there too....it's difficult not knowing what you currently have for furniture or the sizes of your furniture or colours you prefer....with putting a neutral colour on your walls like a pale grey, you can put almost any colour with it but if you put a "colour colour" on your walls, then you will be limited....if you've pics of your furniture, post them because it would be helpful in trying to help you reach a solution....have fun....

I don't have a lot of furniture cuz the Place we are living now is small, and because we were thinking in getting our own house I didn't want to spend $$$ buying something that wouldn't work later.... so I have just a few thing to take when we move, one is a loveseat color caramel a chair and 2 nice mirrors.... I really good at sewing so I can make pillows and covers if it's need be.

I would continue the lines and color of the fireplace over the whole wall to the left of the fireplace to make it read as one integral space. I think this would work beautifully for a tv set up but would also work with a console and decorative shelving if no tv.

If it were me, I would get rid of the carpet and either paint the concrete or flooring underneath it since your home will always feel "dirty" with old carpet, no matter how much you clean it.

The walls are white now, I was thinkink to stay with it but gray seams to be a good option, it will look great with the color of the stone in the fire place :) I gonna go to the hpuse just to check what is under the carpet... we should be moving in obout a 3 - 4 weeks or so.

You may not have thought of this. It is quite common for people to buy a condo or home and then totally replace the carpet, which could have been recently purchased to sell the place. Needing it sold just to get rid of it, at a really good price. Keep checking for sale ads and you may be able to replace that carpet before you know it! This home reminds me of our first home. We slowly picked away at the grungy outdated stuff, and ended up with a lovely home.

-- Getting your new home ready for "move-in", you could do something like this. It will spruce the space up without breaking the bank and yet give you a chance to live there and decide what you really want/need to do to make it yours.

First, address the carpeting - cleaning it or removing it. Can you live with what is under the carpeting, is it paintable - like concrete? Clean the fireplace stone. No need to paint it now - decide that later. It is good-looking as is, and does not need to be painted now - if ever. You can use the colors in the stone and woodwork to your advantage by incorporating them into your upholstery, artwork, accessories, drapery panels, etc.

Decide if you will have a TV in this room. It would go in the space next to the fireplace so the cabinet for that would have to be considered. Tons of easy & affordable solutions are available for this and, since it is a focal wall, should be high up on your priority list.

Find an area rug that works with your love seat and fireplace. These are from Overstock.com and they are all approx. 5' x 8' [the smallest you should go], and cost between $75 - $150. An area rug will dictate what your accent color[s], style, pattern, will be for other upholstery, artwork, tables, wall colors, etc. - basically everything else in this room and spill over into the dining room and kitchen.

Natalie did a great job finding the accent pillow, above, and I built a little farther on that. Since I don't know what style you prefer, these are basically traditional and modern examples and both styles work well with the loveseat and pillow. The all-over designs in the rug are what I would recommend with your loveseat since it is on the small side. Any large image would overwhelm the loveseat and make it seem as though you are trying too hard.

I have to buy a couch to complement the love seat, not sure what color yet... I have this little chair I dont know if I'll put it in this room, the cushing can be change depending on the colors I decide to go with.

All of you have great ideas!!!! Now it doesn't seams soo imposible to decorate this room. It has been a long journey to finally have a place to call ours :) and the excitement is just building up!!!!

I do agree with removing the carpet and even if it is not wood, working with what is under there.
We went from a hardwood floored home to one with carpet and it is very frustrating. I have since googled a lot about alternative flooring.
Paint plywood if it is under there. If it is cement, stain it or leave it! We have a slab and we painted our patio floor without sealing it....bad idea. If you paint cement maybe sealing it would help. But don't just paint it. And make sure you have the right type of paint!!
Just google alternative cheap flooring. Lots of ideas!!

Hello Maisabel...congratulations on your first home! Your living room has great fireplace & nice big window.... You can create a warm cozy hangout going with the rugged stone of the fireplace....get in a nice textured carpet( jute, sisal etc) & a multiseater & couple of single sweater/ ottoman/ recliner & add your touches & bring in your personality with cushion covers, wall art, plants.

Umm, if the carpet is in good condition other than the giant stain it is sometimes possible to find someone who does carpet repairs who can actually remove the stain and re-dye either the whole carpet or just the stained area. My cousin did this after the carpet in an apartment he had got a stain he couldn't get out. After the fix you couldn't even tell-it saved his deposit. Obviously, there's a cost with this but it's lower than replacing all the flooring. Might be worth looking into as a budget stretching option anyhow, but only if the carpet is otherwise nice.

The carpet haven't been clean yet... we gonna have a cleaning conpany coming over in 2 weeks, they use steam, so we'll see if can be saved, i'm sure it gonna get clean, I've seen worst. Then when we are ready for the hardwood floor I know that gonna meke a big change.in the room.

You can take your camera out for an afternoon, take some pix, have them printed in a large format on paper in either black and white, shown below, or in sepia , shown above, frame them in a frame you might have already, and hang it in the area beside the fireplace. You could also do a grouping on this wall of your own photos.

Clean the carpet if you can and wait on the floors. I remember those days when the idea of replacing a carpet was financially beyond my reach. You do what you can. I love your little loveseat and chair. Definitely paint the woodwork, but do NOT paint the fireplace. That is something that can't be undone. Neutral sofas are the foundation of being able to make inexpensive changes down the road. Get one and you'll never regret it. Find a lamp and a table that you love and build your accessories around them.

Sandy! I love your ideas of brown couch and the print of that chair with caramel and brown put all together beautifully!!!! Now that you say it I have some great pics taken on the lake in winter time that will work perfect!!!! Hello everyone!!! Still in the process... had all my ideas put together to decotate base on brown firniture and the husband surprised me with this BLACK! Beutiful and BIG! Furniture and now I have to start over again....

I'm using the painting as a inspiration for colors, now the curtains I feel don't match, and don't know what area rug will work with the black, the 2 side chairs by the painting gonna be using covers I was thinking some kind of off white.

Well, what a nice surprise - all new black furniture!

Using your painting as a piece to go from for color is a good idea.

The carpeting looks great - whatever you did - new or deep cleaning worked magic! It would be good to find an area rug that has hits of black [ your leather furniture], neutrals [ in your fireplace], some of the colors in your painting [ blue, gold]. This will pull the room together.

Not sure about the placement of the sofa on the window end of the wall and the pair of chairs in that corner. Is it possible to center the sofa on the wall it is on? What is happening on this wall, corner to corner? Is there a doorway there? The amount of leather pieces in this space is at the max, so you have to carefully think about placement.

You could use the ottomans together as a cocktail table, for example.

Please clear off the mantle for now.

Here is a more traditional / transitional style that includes black, gold, grays & blue.

I would highly suggest investing in built in cabinetry. This will anchor and balance the space. They will last forever..

Your foyer is a nice large size and is the introduction to your home. It could be developed more for that reason. Think about placing the pair of tapestry chairs that are by the fireplace on the wall where the bentwood chair and vase are now. Place a small table between them. Find a large painting to place over the chest and add a coordinating rug. You could also use the mirror over the chest there and some artwork over the chairs. Think a little bigger all around.

The bentwood chair might work where the tapestry chairs were - a pull-up for extra seating. You could paint it in a fun color and add an interesting side table with it.

I still feel that the sofa should be centered on the fireplace wall to balance the space. Finish off the back of the sofa, which would then be the first thing you see when entering the room, with a console table along the back of the sofa. It can be dressed later in the process. This console [and end tables, etc. ] should coordinate with the chest in the foyer as well as the wood in the fireplace.

Leather chairs on either side of the sofa, facing each other. The placement of the ottomans depends on what you decide to do for a cocktail table.

Is the pony wall necessary? It would be nice to remove it and open up the room to the foyer and make more sense of the placement of the sofa that is centered.

For the drapery panels, make sure they are full enough for a feeling of lux. The formula is usually 2x the width of the window so that there is still fullness when the panels are pulled together. Find a rug before you decide on drapery panels. Unless you choose a simple linen, for example because this choice works with just about everything.

The rug you posted feels busy for this room's design. Might work in the foyer however.

I'll try the tapestry chairs tomorrow I will send yuo a picture... should i make covers for the if theu gonna stau in the entry? I feel the way they are now don't match with anything. Now the bentwood chair unfortunately I can't change the color it was my husband's grandfather's chair, at some point I asked him to paint it and he almost had a heart attack hahaha!!! Maybe I can make a nice cushion.

The foyer has a dark green tile on the floor, I give up trying to find a area rug that looks good on it. I have some artwork that may work , I have to get some frames for it.

Well, pull the sofa as far towards the doorway so that you can fit an end table on the end of the sofa by the window. No console behind the sofa - not enough room and the console will not show enough to warrant purchasing it.

In order to go ahead, you need to decide about furniture placement, a rug for the foyer and LR.
