Old school track lighting

We just bought a house that... Let's just say needs some updating. It has a loft with track lighting on the edge to provide the illumination for the living room below. Any good ideas to bring this into this century? Should we just get new track lighting? Are there products that would look good in this application? What do you think?

the reason for the track, is the limited power source, meaning one. i see they have newer track heads below the balcony, as well..which means nothing is really working here, and they where constantly trying to get more light. here is what i would do, well first is that a recessed light over the door or a sprinkler head?

where is the main power for this, and do both sets of track come on at the same time? I am hoping the power is on the far side of this picture. on the second floor what is that room i see?

Yes, there are can light throughout the ceiling. The track lights are in 3 separate circuits with switches.

I'm not sure where the source of the power is. They've concealed it nicely. No obvious junction boxes or anything.
