Front door color?

So, we have listed to sell our house, it is a boring brown, defiantly not in the budget to change shutters or siding.
We just replaced the front door, the door by the garage is a BM Georgian Brick, the actual garage door is a paint match to the house colour.
What colour do you think we should paint the front door, again this house is for sale.

I think both doors need to be the same color to give a cohesive appearance. Yellow is supposed to evoke a buying impulse so maybe the poster above has a good idea. I would make sure it was very golden.

HI -- Yellow is also the most offending color to most people . Don't do yellow . A pretty blue or a navy or try" Prairie Lilly" by Benjamin Moore ... it will get noticed and it will look good with the house colors . Paint the side door the same as the garage door . Only the main door should be it's own color.

Lefty47, I think that prairie lily, might be too personal a floor for a house we are selling, great color though...blues might be a safer bet

Classic is always appealing to most buyers. Could you paint the shutters and front door a charcoal gray? I'd paint the trim above the windows and garage a soft white to match all trim too. Here is an idea of what the colors would look like. http://houzz.com/photos/714328
Shutters aren't all that expensive and it might be worth changing yours out to look more substantial to fit the size of the windows better. Best of luck to you in selling!

Sadly laurakdesigns, those horrible shutters are on 10 windows...the other side of house also.

I would paint the door next to the garage door the same as the garage door. Take all the shutters off and only replace the ones on the front of the house.

If you can't remove those things over the windows, I would paint them the house color to make them go away. I would paint the brown trim around the front door white. Dark burnt orange shutters, dark brown door, to take roof color into account.

Trim the bushes, they are too large.

One more thing, if you could add a fence to block the pool from the road even, it would be a big help.

Handyman, the bushes have been trimmed, we did try to remove those god awful shutters, but, the siding has faded with the sun.
Never thought of painting that strip of wood...
Lefty47 also suggested a burnt orange before, I might be too afraid of that color! Lol

Try it, it's just paint. In the big picture, it really is an inexpensive fix. :)

Lots of good ideas here but could be expensive and you might have additional projects that you need to spend money on. I personally would be very turned off by the burnt orange or Prairie Lily. If it were me, I would probably just paint the door gold or blue and buy a couple of pretty pots of mums.

I would say changing those dark things around the windows would attract many more lookers. At first glance I didn't notice the beautiful garage door. Just looked at the windows. Paint them beige. And by all means stay neutral with that front door. You don't want people to say they don't want to see a house because they hate the football team that wears orange. Just sold mine and even changed a blue bathroom to beige. Paint the door a dark nature color. Not navy!!

Just to clarify. I never said paint the front door orange. I said I would paint the front door dark brown and the shutters burnt orange, which I guess maybe I should have used the phrase a rust color for the new shutters.

Gold, blue or yellow would not look good with that color roof. I think you need things in the same color family.

You can't go wrong with a colonial red front door. The buyers will live it! It will give your home some pizazz!

Someone else said paint the door prairie lily, which is orangey. I see that you mean about the roof. I think It is hard to see the exact color on the computer.

Everyone has great ideas, of course money is an issue, but I will consider everyone's thoughts and opinions, thank you!

Come to think of it, our front door was burnt orange when we bought our house. I repainted immediately and thought it was ugly, but we bought the house.
